Hi guys,

I want to install mk1 punto cams in my mk2 1.2 16valve punto.

Because the mk1 ones i heared have better lift and give at higher rpm more hp.

Now i can get a complete mk1 head for cheap, so is it possible i install the complete mk1 head on my mk2 engine?

Thanks

What do you mean, they sit in a cam carrier on top, its seperate to the head ?

How do i know if i have the right cams. The cams i have seen come out of an lancia ypsilon 1.2 16valve engine with 86 hp witch is the same as the mk1 punto engine.

Do you have a picture of the cam carrier? I couldn't find a exploded view of the engine so i can't imagine how its mounted.

I heard that the lancia ypsilon had the same engine as the fiat punto mk1.

It comes out of an 1998 ypsilon, with an 1.2 liter 16 valve 86hp engine.

Would these cams improve my power of my 1.2l 16v mk2 punto and will it fit?

Thanks

You really, really, need a workshop manual to do this job. (The Haynes is OK.) And "special tools" to set the valve timing. This is not a non interference engine. Get it wrong and carnage may follow.

Head is effectively two seperate castings. One part holds the cams, one part holds the valves and cam followers.

Only way to be sure that you've the "right" cams is to measure valve lift. The Punto line was, historically, organised on "fit what's available, keep the line going" rules.
