Hi all,

I've looked over various websites but am yet to find out... what is the difference between the MK1 and MK2? Generally costmetical ones i'm talking about

Cheers

The differences are very slight, there were no major changes, but the small changes make the mk2 a much better car.

Outside the front grille has been tidied up, and the badges state the BHP rather than the engine size.

Inside the dash is much better quality, and is a nice 2 tone colour making the cab lighter, the seats were also improved i think.

There are many more changes (over 100 i believe) but i cant think of them!

Re: Re: Difference between Mk1 and Mk2?

Thanks for the quick reply! I have about £3000 to spend. Would I be able to get a good MK2 for that? Or should I look at a late, good MK1? I think probably a MK1 for that price.

Re: Re: Re: Difference between Mk1 and Mk2?

for that money any mk2 would be mega miles. Its a fiat not an audi so thats usually a bad thing. Go for a mk1.

As a guide 6 months back i sold my 1998(mk1) 1.6sx for £3000. 76k miles, lovely condition.

You should be able to pick up a nice bravo for £3k.

Another point - i think the 1.6 sx engine is the best performance/consumption/value for money engine. Although i love my 1.8 :) DONT GET A 1.4!!!!

Hi,

The other nice thing is that the HGT'sBHP went up and has a better engine.
I just a couple of months ago swaped my MK1 HLX for a MK2 HGT!

Single biggest thing was the introduction of the 1.2 over the 1.4. For £3k you might be able to pick up a early 1.2 but you'll be very lucky to find anything else mk2.

HLX got body colour headlight washers + different nicer alloys. Reportedly there were a 1000 changes but they are hard to identify.

Loot.com has a mk2 HLX for £3500 at the moment - could be a steal at that price (heehee)

Thanks for all the quick replies guys!

I ask the difference because I saw a MK2 T reg at a garage yesterday. It was absolutely lovely bodywise and I was wondering if any styling might be different on the MK1.

I'm off to buy the usual car mags to see what's for sale and might take a look at some.

1.6 would be my preferred choice, and yes i've read about the poor 1.4 on a few sites.

Anything else I need to know?

Thanks

Make sure you get the red key, and check it fits the car!

Or buy one with no red key but make sure you get a good discount!

Not having a red key in practice is no big deal as it only allows new blue keys to be programmed into the immobiliser.

You will only need to do this in 2 sets of circumstances

1) You want to add a new key, supplied by Fiat. The answer is not to do this. Get your current blue key cloned at a local locksmith. Cheaper and more convenient.

2) The immobiliser has forgotten its key list. There are no substantiated reports of this, but plenty of rumours. (My mate knows someone who heard that his mate had this happen etc.) You can only conclude that it doesn't happen under any set of normal circumstances. If it does happpen, its most likely a problem in the immobiliser anyway and will require a new set of electronics, door locks etc, and so you'll end up with a new red key, even if you had the red key originally.

Hope thats of some help/comfort!

Nick
