Hi Troops,

Found some diesel on the drive the other day, just thought I'd overfilled. But it is a constant small leak, had a look and it seems to be coming from the top of the tank.

Is this a common problem? and if it is what's failing? the pipe fittings or the pump/sender unit. Would it just require a new "O" ring for the pump/sender and is a "o" ring available?

Has anyone came across this before?

There are a few pipes all can potentially leak.
There's a thread about a leak from the fuel tank sender unit, on a Panda I think, but might be a Punto. A guy in India I seem to remember, so could be a Palio, took it to bits and glued it to seal a crack. Might need a bit of a search on here.

First, you need access above the tank. There is usually an access cover under the rear seat of cars, so look there if your Qubo is a car. If a van, the cover will probably be in the same place, so look where a seat would be. You may be able to see the leak.

Grovelling under the car, trace the pipes from the filler down to the tank. Possibly one has come adrift. Sometimes clumsiness with filling can damage the filler neck high up, so have a good look there too. Most cars have a plastic tank now, so unlikely to be an issue of tank split. Will be a simple leak, but difficult to locate.

Had a look earlier...the tank is metal!
Seems to be wet from mid seem, started to clean the wet diesel and the underseal paint came off, to reveal rust on the surface of the tank. Cleaned area, but no signs of leaking fuel yet. But if the rest of the tank is like this, it's probably a rust hole or going at the seem.

Next question...does anyone know where I might get a replacement tank. had a rudimentary search, but nothing much.

Ouch!
Look here first. http://62.106.11.160:8000/navi?SGRP...ROUP_7&SB_CODE=-1&WINDOW_ID=1&ALL_LIST_PART=0
You'll see there are two tanks, one without the options, the other with and also fits the car version. (Still don't know which you have)
Looks like £1300 from Fiat. Silly price.

I'd expect it to be the same as on any similar Peugeot or Citroen as they are all the same model. Time to scan Ebay or breakers.

Geez...the price is mental for a new tank, best I seen was £500 from parts4cars.

Contacted the guy that re-furbished my 124 Spider radiator, and Lancia Beta tank. He can re-furbish the tank, in fact he may have an exchange one in stock (Bipper). Hopefully it will fit. Got the tank out tonight...not too bad a job.

Watch this space.

How did you get on with sorting your fuel tank problem. My 2010 petrol qubo is exactly the same and I am struggling to track down a used one.

Cheers

Kenny

I did get my tank changed and now is fine.

The guy that did the refurbishment was saying that he has come across more tanks leaking due to the soldered weld fracturing around the inlet pipes rather than any rust issues.

You should take your tank to a radiator/tank repair place.

mine leaked from the mid-level joint, money grabbin FIAT/dealer arseholes wanted £650 for a replacement one about 4-5yrs ago...luckily I found a peugeot bipper one for £45!
