Technical DIAGNOSTICS Problem

I know you guys usually say, 'why don't you ask the UniDiag forum', but since I am getting no response from them after two weeks, I'll ask here:
-1998 Marea Weekend 1.6 Automatic
-VAG-COM Cable (eBay; worked fine on my Skoda)
-3 pin FIAT cable (ebay) with red power lead + black ground lead
-Windows XP
-UniDiag 71
-My ECU: IAW 1AF.26/5524- [can't read the rest]


My UniDiag screens:
At 9800 speed:
Open Com Port
Debug screen
Com Port Opened
Init started
error rcv wait timeout
Init ready
No keybytes; init not ok

At 4800 speed:
Com Port Opened
Init started
Init Ready
Keybytes, count: 5
BO

ID after 5baud init
no data received
error in communication

My COM3 settings on my computer are as shown on UniDiag's Com Port settings (i.e. Data bits: 8, Parity: none, Stop bits: 1, Flow control: none, and in 'advanced', Receive buffer is [14], Transmit buffer is [16].)

Any help for me to be able to read my engine ECU greatly appreciated!!

BTW: I also tried using FiatECUScan, but kept getting 'No Response from ECU' among other screens.

Could it be your computer not reading correctly? I know phones are not ECU's, but 64 bit OS seemed to be sensitive in some areas, (Like driver recognition and installations etc).

Can't help with the diagnostics like, but will offer any suggestions i can!

Thank you 'MrMigs08' and 'Dave' for your replies. My laptop is 5 years old (XP) but read a 2005 Skoda ECU just fine. I don't know what tweaks it might need to read an IAW 1AF.26 Fiat ECU (1998). (I did try loading FTDIchip updates, but got a message saying 'there are no newer drivers than what you have'. Strange, since my USB driver shows '2007.') As to FiatECUscan, I have checked there, but don't seem to find any settings specific to the IAW 1AF.26 ECU. If anybody has been able to read that ECU either via UniDiag OR FiatECUscan, I'd appreciate knowing how you did that!
