Technical diagnostic help for marea

have bought diagnostic scanner of ebay to reset engine light which is still flashing even though car has been fixed! scanner has standard 16 pin plug which does not fit my y plate 2001 fiat marea 100sx 1.6 estate. can anybody help?

a wee update on plug for scanner. plug fits, just a small bit of plastic stopping plug going on from car port. it was catch for car diagnostic port dust cover stopping plug from going on.
