Hi

I'm trying to help diagnose a Fiat Ducato 2.8jtd 2003 x230. From what I've learned it should be the 3-pin connector behind the left headlight and air intake filter for the ecu. I have got a switched KKL interface with the 3-pin adaptor and connected positive lead.

I'm new to Multiecuscan, but I have got access to the Abs module, but no luck with the engine ecu. What do I need to get it working? Seems the abs is only straight k-line pin 7, since it works on any switch settings on the kkl interface.

The motorhome has a blinking injector light that comes on after approx. 20-50km and it then runs limp mode.

Map sensor, fuel pressure sensor and gas pedal module has been replaced so far, it has been diagnosed at the shop as well, but I'm hoping to be able to do it myself.

Blinking injector light is often an immobiliser issue, although usually only a problem when starting as for safety reasons should not cause engine to stop once running.
It may be worth checking the wiring related to that and cleaning connections.
Though I did have an old Iveco Daily that flashed the injector light because the chipped igintion key had fallen out of the steering lock whilst driving along as so worn.:)

Since it is only flashing after atleast 20km and then becomming almost powerless step by step, I would doubt it beeing an immobiliser issue.

I've found a common problem with the cables from gas pedal and connectors along the way to the ECU which I've cleaned up yesterday, remains to be tested.

Fair enough, it was just the flashing injector that can indicate immobiliser issues.
Ideally a good code read is required, unfortunately vans of that era were not obliged to have OBD ports and protected their products against third party diagnostics. I had the same issue when I ran Iveco Daily vehicles of similar age.:(

I may be wrong, but I have a faint memory suggesting that the x230 has separate ports for each processor, so when optional ABS was fitted it had a separate connector. I think that connector for the airbag was concealed behind LHS cab fusebox.

The above would fit with the later x244 model, where most of the processors are connected to different pins on the 16 way EOBD2 connector.

@Albin95L is there a separate 3 way connector for the engine processor?

There is 2 3-pin connectors with plugged ends, the first one is 2 cable and the second three cable. I have got the Multiecuscan to work with the 3 cable one and could access the ABS from there, but no other systems would respond.

I have also tried the 2 cable one with engine ecu, but no luck. Maybe there could be a third then?

However the motorhome runs perfectly now since cleaning the connector behind the lower dashpanel under the steeringwheel for the gas pedal. Have been going for 400km now.

I cannot offer any further suggestions for the ECU access, other than on forum or wider searches, as I have no direct experience of the 230 model. You seem to have fixed your problem. I have read several posts relating to problems caused by the under dash connector, and a common fix is to remove the connector, and solder the wires together.

Yeah I've read those too, sounded to good to be true. As I said the gas pedal was replaced first with no luck and we cleaned the connector behind passenger dash first with no luck. I don't see how the passenger connector would be connected to the gas pedal since no wires match, but looked the same as on the other threads.

But the second connector just inside the firewall was the obvious one going straight from the pedal. Remains to be seen if it needs soldering as well.

For clarity can you please confirm that by just inside, you mean on the cabin side of the firewall, not the engine side. My understanding is that the correct connector, which has been described as under/behind the dashboard, is on the cabin side.

Yes it was on the drivers side of the cabin, near the cable passthrough in the firewall.

Back to the Multiecuscan issue. Has anyone successfully read the engine ecu codes on these x230 2.8jtd's, that can confirm which 3-pin connector to use as well as interface.

On the compatibility chart, both KL and the Elm327 should do it with the 3pin adaptor.

I have a swithed KL adapter that managed to access the ABS system as said previously. It didn't seem to make any difference of which setting I used on the KL, so I'd assume at least the ABS is straight k-line pin 7.

Can you contact https://www.gendan.co.uk/ I have found then both knowledgeable and helpful. :)
Even just searching their website should give you an idea of what leads and what information you can retrieve from your scanner for that model.
