As if the belt is touching something...When did you change the oil, belt, water pump? It should not run like that.

It was at the end of an 125 mile journey, so it was as warm as they come. The oil was last changed about 1000 miles ago (when I bought the car), and I don't believe the belt and water pump have been changed. However, it isn't yet time - at least not according to the book. I have booked it in for friday at the dealership…but they have a terrible reputation, I would like to be armed with as much knowledge as possible!

So changed the oil? Main dealer or the sales place? If the latter make sure they reset the oil degradation index when the oil change was completed. If they didn't it needs to be changed again and reset correctly. Unlikely to be linked to this issue, but will eventually cause costly DPF issues later down the line if not sorted now (n)

Main dealer, though not a Fiat main dealer. Does mine have a DPF? I thought it was only the ECO models?

change the belt, water pump, oil, oil filter... as it is described in the service book...the car is almost five years old, it costs around 300€ and you have peace of mind.

Those are my thoughts…but as it's arisen within a week of being bought, I hope those things will be done under warranty. If they're failing to the extent that they're making a racket, surely they can't claim 'wear and tear' after only a week?

If you are in EU you have eight days at least working days after you bought the car to claim anything it is even better if you have warranty... try to get some discount and take the car to Fiat mechanic and replace the parts written in the service book, or even pay those hard earned 300€ and get it fixed, for peace of mind.I serviced all my used cars after they were bought, even if the dealer claimed it was done. I do not trust them at all.
