Hi Folks

Has anyone decatted their car? was thinking of doing it I have a full system so should make some difference. Anyway if its too loud or I dont like it can always put the cat back on.

On another note my K&N panel filter has arrived. Only ordered it yesterday at about 2:30 it came this morning! Gonna fit it at lunchtime today.

I'm having my 4 branch manifold fitted tomorrow and the decat fitting on thursday. There should be a big performance increase but I'll let you know how I get on once done

will the cars hp increase without the cat?
and will it need to be replaced for the MOT.
i have a bravo 80 sx.

Re: hp increase

The increase should be 4-5bhp maybe. Yes you need itfor the mot. but its only 10 mins work once a year. So worth it really

Re: hp increase

like he said a decat on its own should give 5ish bhp for my 1.6.

The full system including the 4 branch manifold is more likely to be about 3 time that and then some.

Will sound alot better too.

I will find out on Thursday any way once the work has been done.

Any I will probably get the Bravo on a rolling road next month to see what the exact figures of all the mods including the Nitrous are.

Re: Re: hp increase

u havent answered the question, wont the car fail the MOT as a result of having the cat removed.

Re: Re: Re: hp increase

Hi Amit
I think JonD answered that.
If your car had a CAT when manufactured, it needs to have one at the MOT.
Dill.

Re: Re: Re: hp increase

Yup! There is no way on earth an engine will meet post-92 emissions without a cat.

The other option is to get a stainless steel hi-flow cat.

Emmisons

Regarding the mot. My m8 took his cavilier without cat for mot. one of the readings was supposed to be 20 max. it was 200+ LOL.

Just for a laugh really. The mechanic didnt realise that was why the emmsions were so high. M8 said he bought it of a dodgy bloke without a cat then the mechanic had to ask his mate if it has a cat on!

Re: Emmisons

cheers for pointing out I didnt answer the question 'Amit'

As every one said without a cat you will fail your MOT

There is a very simple way round it though. When you have the decat made up keep the existing CAT, before you go for the MOT replace the CAT its only a few bolts then once the car is MOT'd put the decat back on

Hope that helps you

Copied from an FAQ about De-Cat-ing

"Please note that in the UK, new roadside emissions testing is being introduced for passenger cars. If your car fails the test and it is found that you have removed the cat then it will be very probable that you will be fined. The fines depend on the part of the country you are in, some councils being stricter than others with even 4 and 5 figure sums being mentioned, with cars being impounded until the fine is paid. You have been warned!
As with any modification, always tell your insurer."

Decat

If the car is built in August in 1992 or later then the car must have a cat on it to pass its MOT.

And since Bravos Started in 1995 (i think) then every bravo must have a cat on it

I have took mines off and it is no problem putting it back on

old cat

th eplace that mad emy exhaust told me that the best way to de cat your car is to try and find an old kackered cat off the same car, then smash all the insides out, hey presto, straight through bit of pipe that is exactly the right shape/size to fit, and although i cant imagin any of the garages i have been to reporting you for removing the cat, you can always just plead ignorance, saying it looked liekthere was a cat on it to you!

Re: old cat

Right guys a quick update for you!

Gaz (Genius Mechanic m8) has just phoned me to tell me he has just finished fitting my super sprint stainess 4 branch manifold which comes with its own decat pipe!

He says its sounds amazing and has given me a big performance increase!

I'll let you all know exactly how good it is tomorrow!

Re: Re: old cat

iv had myne de-cat'd for about 8 months and it sounds much better! not sure about performance, nothing major obviously.

i DID fail my mot with it on so i had to put it back on for my mot, took me about half an hour to get it off but about 2 hours to get back on!!!

and you cannot tell your insurance company if you do it as your car will not be road legal.

Re: 4 branch exhaust manifold

Toy!!! How much did that set you back?

Re: Re: 4 branch exhaust manifold

I got it 2nd hand but unused for £180. I was well pleased with that too. A new 4 branch Manifold costs over £600 if I remember correctly OMG!

I Si should beable to back me up on that aswell as we were both on the Supersprint site a little while back

Super Sprint are the only company that make a 4 branch for the Bravo 16v engines too

Re: Re: Re: 4 branch exhaust manifold

The Manifolds have come down in price loads over the last 6 months
Ricky was gonna but one for his 1.8 and it was 600ish quid.
you can get them much cheaper though now

1.2 £318.00
1.6 £338.00
1.8 £387.00

I'm pretty sure that all the above are plus VAT aswell cant remember if they include VAT on the site or not?
