My radio just died, I'm fairly certain its the radio not a fuse etc as it worked fine, then I turned it off, turned it back on, radio 4 with no display and no volume and no ability to change channels. Disconnected battery, reconnected it, turned radio on, a bit a white noise then dead as a dead thing.

Are they fairly easy to replace, looks like they can be removed with the old style u shaped prongy things..............?

Yes, bog standard din unit lurks behind the Multipla fascia. It's a Blaupunkt/Bosch.

If you want to keep the original look, I highly recommend these guys:

because they are Blaupunkt. The units come with a 12 month guarantee and are indistinguishable from a new unit. They also do the CD version but it comes with a higher price tag. Shipping to UK was quite reasonable. I've had mine for 2-3 years now and it works perfectly.
However, if you want to update to get bluetooth, SD card reader etc, you'll need to look elsewhere!

If I put one of those babies in I'd triple the value of the car!

It works out at around £58-60, delivered. Secondhand oem head units seem to go for about £25-35 and will invariably be tired and knocked around a bit, without a guarantee. If you want to keep the look of the original dash, they're not bad value. If you want to update to the latest interfaces, it's not for you. I like the look of the original, so I got one of these and a Pure Highway DAB unit which I hooked up to the CD changer input. That way I get to keep the original appearance but can listen to 5Live without it sounding like a swarm of bees :).

Btw, every time I fill up at the pumps I double the value of the car......

Mine came with a tape player and because I live in the 21st century I don't have tapes.

Straight to halfrauds and for £50 I got a shiny new pioneer CD player. Fascia adapter is available on eBay for around the £5 mark. It was all installed in about 10 minutes.
I think I needed an aerial adapter as well but I couldn't say for certain without pulling it out. In any case those are cheap as well.
