Technical Daylight Sensor And Main Beam Lights

Why main beam lights are disabled on the stalk when I choose "A" position???
DOES it have any reasonable reason ?
STILO 1.6 2005 WITH DAYLIGHT SENSOR

Does the "A" mean the "Auto" setting?

I suppose if it's "Auto" then the car wants to decide when to turn on the high beams.. although leaving something like high beam selection for the car to decide doesn't sound like a great idea to me..

Yes it means Auto, but it doesnt control high beams as you say, I just wonder why
