Bonjour: I have what I think is a 1971 500L. The title papers list it as 1966 the vin number is: 110F 2935006. On the vin plate also stamped is 2934148. I'm not sure what that number represents. Can anyone help?

Thanks cheers Jeff

why do you think it is a 71 500L
does the number on the Vin Plate match the one stamped int the metal above where the plate is fixed?
does the vin/engine number match the paperwork?
sounds like there was some confusion when the car was registered or.........
Post up some pics so everyone can confirm the car is an L (exterior and interior shots)
(Numbers are are just an indication of the cars position in te prduction run, no factory paper work exists, but it is possible to roughly work out where the car fits into the run...

Thanks. The plate matches the stamped numbers on the body. I am the 2rd owner, and I know the first owner so i am certain it is a 71 as she bought it new. it has all the items of a L. Not sure why the carte de grise has it listed as a 1966.

All it can be is that at some point in it's life the log book was lost and a new one was applied for and something was filled in incorrectly or not picked up when sent back.... Npot sure how much grief it would cause getting it corrected or even if it would be possible without a lot of aditional work....
Knowing teh original owner.. dio they have any of the origianl sales infor as that would help you if something came of any subsequant checks....
e.g. if stopped by the Police or in an accident or claim and an eagle eyed prerson noted it was a 71 not a 66

Hi,
I don't want advertise for a specific website, but here you can find the list of the classic Fiat according to the VIN. I could confirm that my Peppina is a 500L from 1971

A simple way to tell if it is a '66 or a '71 L' is to look at the instrument cluster--- if it is the 'simple' instrument cluster with only an 'idiot' light for a fuel gauge, it is NOT a 'L'----the 'L' has the large insrument cluster with a proper fuel-gauge in it.

Hi Jeff, According to my records we have the following info - Model, start number, end number, model year, number built.
Fiat 500 F/L
2742563
2976954
1971
234392
Hope this helps.
Ian.

What I love about online numbers...
if you deduct 2742563 from 297695 you get 234391

I was told that the chassis numbering was not consistant in terms of every consecutive number actually being on a car..
the number I was given for 1971 production was 229429 plus 41660 (no idea wether that was the split between F and L )
Fiat were it seems never bothered about much...

another example being 1957 N numbering started at 101
