Dashboard light problems Mileometer

Have a 1.6 marea weekend-with the digital mileometer/tripometer.Over the last couple of days this digital display of figures is becoming dimmer.it is barely readable in daylight and not at all at nite.Anyone any ideas/solutions to problem as not very mechanically minded Thanks In Anticipation.
