Has anyone hardwired a dash cam into a Fiat 500? I've bought a Mi-Witness kit and it needs to be hardwired in order for the parking mode to work. I'm thinking of using fuse taps but don't know which fuses to come off of. I need a constant live and a switched live. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, sorry for the delay!

I took a couple of picture and I hope they will help.

I used the F32 for the constant and the F49 for the switched. I have hardwired my camera almost 2 years ago and I didn't have any problem so far.

Ciao!

NB: the picture with fig. 126 is upside down if compared with the fuses picture

Excellent, I'm going to wire it up Saturday week. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again

Mine is currently just wired down behind the dash to the cigarette lighter, wanted to just check everything was ok with the car (only owned it a week) before hard wiring anything in.
Plan is to get it hardwired in the next few weeks though so I'll be interested to see how it goes jim.
Gmore, great picture, thank you.

Hi all
Having seen the above suggestion of fuse taps (never seen them before) these look ideal for our dashcam install in Ruby (been meaning to fit for a while)
May I ask, do I need standard size blade fuse or mini?
Have looked in manual but does not state what size they are, at a guess I'd say mini, but would like to order correctly.
Thanks

ive got a couple of fuse taps in my evo but the fuse box is set further back than the 500 and is a bit more accessible... some Fiat tow bar kits come supplied with a fuse tap too..

i'd be tempted to order these in from the us

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-ATM-Mi..._Video_Fuses_Fuse_Holders&hash=item2ed19bd1f2

the idea behind them is you find a working circuit which does what you want (eg switched ignition )

most often these are in groups in the fuse box sharing a common supply via what is know in the electrical trade as a Bus bar.... the fuse looks after the circuit its protecting so that side is effectively the switched side... if the fuse pops the circuit is de powered........

so you find a ignition switched supply in your car fuse box and with the fuse pulled you can quickly use a test light to see the Supply (which will light the test lamp) and the Load which will will not light the light........

so now insert your fuse tap along with the fuse into the supply side of the fuse holder you will often notice plenty of empty fuse spaces most fuse boxes are built with surplus supply in mind but be sensible running a dash cam drawing <1a isnt going to pose a issue but dont be silly and try and wire in a big sub and amp this way...

and always fuse the accessory as close to the fuse tap as possible

they are mini in the 500

although i would be tempted to tap into the back of the cigar lighter for ease and its a nice big supply :)

I forgot to say (but I'm sure you already aware about it) that you should try using something like this:

This thing will avoid the camera to kill your battery :)

I'm sure everybody knows but it doesn't harm specifying this.

Ciao!

Sorry to be a pain but have you got a rear view camera fitted as well? I've fitted the forward facing camera and have managed to conceal the wiring in the roof lining and down the front door pillar. However when it came to routing the wire for the rear view camera I'm not sure where to run it. I don't want to interfere with the side airbags. Any ideas?

I'm wondering about this as well.

I have a ghetto rear camera setup in my 500C that's served me well for a year -- I mount my Mobius ActionCam on the little handle behind the rear seat (I believe this is supposed to mount the rear "wind shield" accessory). The USB cable then runs down tucked between the two rear seats, down the side of the seat, and underneath the rear floor mat, under the driver's seat and then into my cigarette lighter with adapter.

It's not nice but it works as I rarely carry people in the back seat :D

I have a rear camera, as soon as I have a minute I will take some pic of how I fitted the cable :)
