Damaged Sump

Sorry for boring question, but hear goes. I've got a 1.9 turbo diesel TD100 ELX

I was driving down an unmade road near me yesterday and caught my sump plug on a manhole cover that was sticking up.

Unfortuately impact was great enough to smash the sump plug and a 2" lump of sump out of my out of the bottom of the engine and I left all the oil previously inside on the track!

Can this be fixed if so how? Can you buy another sump or can the parts be welded back on? (I did go back and pick them up later) the engine seems to be OK as I drove around the corner and stopped.

you can buy a new sump and put it on? not sure how hard this is as never had to do it, but it is a bolted on part not part of the block?

i'd be very very careful though, you dont know what has happened to engie drivig even 10 seconds without oil?

I broke the sump on my TD100 a couple of months ago. Heres my reply from last time it came up.

Eper says £180 for a new one.

I just changed mine on my TD, same thing hit it on a frickin speed hump. Front drivers side corner.

I managed to get one for £45 delivered. Its a bit of a pig of a job to do. Wasnt sure if the gearbox had to come out or at least be loosened off to do it, but thankfully it didnt. The rear/bottom engine mount has to come off and a few other bits that bolt to the sump, then theres a dust plate between the gearbox and engine, theres two rubber grommets in it that give you access to the two torx bolts that side of the sump. The front ones easy but the rear one was tricky, I couldnt get lined up on it right and had to bend the dust cover out of the way, I couldnt get the tool in there either and it took some doing to track down one long and thin enough to get in there. I think it might have been a T35 but a normal one on a small socket wont go, it has to be a long torx drive (about 8 inches) to fit in the gap. It might be easier on yours, the TD had a lump of metal on the gearbox that turned it into a hard job.

I'd get under it and have a good look at it, if it hasnt cracked too much (mine had) I'd be tempted to clean it up and tow it somewhere that could ally weld it.

Good luck finding one, as said they wont want to split a good engine and cant be bothered removing the sump from a knackered one unless they happen to have the engine out already.

Found out from the breakers that they never have sumps as they drill holes in them to drain the fluids before removing the engine

Spoke to a man who had a load of pattern ones in stock for petrol bravas for around £60 -£70 Of course the TD is an alloy sump so he reckoned that I should just bite the bullet and buy a Fiat one.

Unfortunately to knackered to weld.
