Daily Hack

Introduction

With my Puntp Sporting off the road for the winter and getting some much needed bodywork done thgis is my daily/winter hack. She's a beauty isnt she ? Hyundai Elantra laugh as you may but this has elec everything and uses less fuel than my Punto. It has also had more hits than the Beetles, 2 rear enders in a 8 days nothing serious jsy a bit of paint! Lads I work with recommended a styling tip a litre of unleaded and a box of matches :D. I love it coz I dont have clean it as much!
Got it for nothing off family member, it needed an NCT and a bit of clean up...so cant complain at that. Last year was using my partners fiesta for the snow but wanted something that was wisde enough to fit in the tracks made in the road.

Heres my partners old fiesta, failed NCT/Mot last xmas, been sitting for a while she doesnt use anymore but has become so attached to it wont sell it! thus stuck at my parents place. it failed on a few bits n pieces nothing too serious. I'm thinking of a set of 7x13 superlights or old RS 4spokes???? and a good dose of lowering just for the craic!!!

thought you might :D! Not sure what to do with it to be honest, was gonna scrap it but think i might just leave it till spring and have a play around with it. Used to always be a ford man up until a few years ago, but loving the whole retro ford scene at the moment.

Why Pug steelies are they a little wider or look better? I usewd to have pug 205 gti alloys on an escort once and they looked ok...

Well as mentioned in my Punto thread due to the relentless rain and not being blessed with a garage I have no progress on any vehicle to update, so was diggin though old paperwork and found a few pics of my old chariots most of the 90's... wish I has kept the mini!

Got a problem with the Hyundai (other that it being a Hyundai). One of the rear doors wasnt staying closed so without thinking I pushed closed and locked it from the inside and now it wont open. I think the fault is with the actual lock mechanism. Ive tried getting the door panel off but is proving difficult with the door closed. Any suggestions as it due its NCT (MOT) next week?

Cheers

Eamonn

any suggestions on getting door open with faulty lock?

Help, my rear door wouldn't close it kept opening going around corners etc so I thought the sensible thing would be to push it shut and lock it from the inside! Now it wont open at all the lock seems to be jammed from the inside and wont full release the lock mechanism:bang: I thought about trying to get the inside door panel off but cant get access! I mangfed to pick up a second hand lock but the NCT is due since erm...erm...last week

Any suggstions appreciated...(obvioulsy i wont take oxy acetalyne suggestions seriously!)

Cheers, but if yank the handle or lock any further i rekon it will break, with the front door open i can unbolt the rear door hinges, do you rekon if I can do that and give it a bit of wiggle it may free it up or this a completely ****ish idea?

Tips for reducing emmisions

Eventually got door open and lock mechanism changed on the HYundai had to physically break the lock into parts whilst still fitted to inside of door took 3.5 hours, seriously grazed knuckles and and whole load of F###'s chucked at it!

Anyhow NCT time again and I am concerned about the emissions it just about passed last time, i'm gonna chack a new air filter in the oil was only recently changed plugs were checked and cleaned...was going to throw a fuel additive in, any recommendations? and any other tricks?

Any suggstions appreciated as always (y)

It's amazing! this is the most neglected car I have ever owned yet sailed through the NCT the other day.

m2025b - I couldn't get hold of any of the stuff you recommendred to bring down the emmisions but got hold of a twin pack of STP stuff instead and brought my CO down to 0.17% with a limit of 0.50% on high idle and 0.18% on low idle with a limit of 0.50% - so im delighted!

New edition to the fleet arriving thursday its not a Fiat ot anything Italian - I dont know exactly what to do with it!
