Hi guys,
I have a 2007 Citroen Jumper 3.0. We're converting it into a camper and one of the things I've put in is a Votronic DC-DC charger for our lithium leisure battery.
It's working fine, but it's working in voltage mode. Meaning it will start charging the battery whenever it senses +13.2V or so on the starter battery, indicating the alternator is running.

It can also run in 'intelligent' mode, which has the additional benefit that it will charge the other way around, charging the starter battery from the leisure battery which is also charged by solar.

To make it run in intelligent mode, I need to connect D+, a signal that will tell the DC-DC charger if the alternator is running. I'm wondering if I have this kind of connection somewhere on this van. Some people suggested connecting to the ACC signal, but this would put a load on the starter battery before starting the engine...

Hi nigelvan

Assuming Citroen are the same as Fiat:

The D+ appears on the back of the alternator A010, it is the smaller of the two terminals and carries the thinner Yellow/Red wire. It goes to the Front engine coupling D004, where the colour becomes Brown/Green. It then heads to the Body Computer M001. See picture. Beware that wire colours can differ from year to year etc.

You may find that your van is fitted with "converter's sockets" or "coachbuilder's sockets" which are low down under a plasic cover on the door pillar on the UK driver's side. The D+ will appear here as it's frequently needed for motorhomes. Try a search online for a pdf copy of the 2017 Fiat "Converter's and Upfitter's Manual" which has a wealth of information.

On my van, the D+ connection is on pin 2 of the 15-pin conversion socket at the base of the driver's B-post. It's a pull to earth connection providing a simulated D+ signal from the BCM, so you use it to switch a relay passing a positive feed to the Votronic B2B.

Note that in quite a few Fiat documents including the 2017 upfitters manual mentioned, the terminal numbering of the conversion socket is wrongly depicted, with the numbers running sequentially in vertical rows, top to bottom. At least on my van (X290) it is as depicted in the attached image from the Promaster bodybuilders manual, running horizontally. So the D+ signal, pin 2, is the centre pin of the top row.

Hi guys, Thanks for hinting on the converter's socket. I found it on the eLearn cd. Will check this weekend if I have this option. I already removed the plastic cover on the door pillar to get some furniture in.

I checked this weekend but I have nothing there. It's just an empty cavity. So I'll have to find another place to tap in to...

I understand converters sockets are very rare on X2/50's, but have appeared on several X2/90's (including mine) despite not being listed on the spec sheet or charged for.
If you have to run a wire through to the engine bay you can run extras out through the existing loom seal above the accelerator. Easiest to remove RH headlamp etc, and lower RH dash pocket fuse cover. Use a sharp screw driver to pierce the gland, feed a draw wire through, solder to other wires and pull it back through. You will probably need to spray silicon, easy glide, or similar on the grommet. Use brazing wire if you can't get auto wire through.

The popular CBE motorhome electrical system does not connect to the vehicle D+. Instead an IGNITION +ve is monitored for 13.2 V and then outputted as simulated D+. Where the CBE equipment is not used, the facility could be duplicated by using a "low" current charge control module available via Ebay, and supplying it via a suitable IGN +ve point. Please note that if the standard D+ is overloaded, the alternator will be reluctant to start generating. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-12V-...603429?hash=item2387f17425:g:Ya0AAOSwAXZa4ElD
