Technical Cutting out on my shiny new 1242 problem

Ok, thats good news then, i have roken down so much lately that i'm paranoid about it!

the bearings on my old alternator were rattling like crazy so while the engine was out i thought i would put on a recon one, old one works fine tho so i'll get my refund!

thanks folks

Is the alternator warning light coming on in position 1?

Cheers

PD

No i don't think so, took it out for 20mile run earlier, coming to a stop after a drive it still cuts ot, revs drop to 500 and off it goes!, also near the end oil light was coming on when idling,

maybe this is just teething problems with a rebuilt engine and all that!

thanks

OK, your alternator problem may be the tickle supply if the light is not coming on.

Check it before abandoning the other alternator.

Whats the tickle supply?, the old noisy alternator is on at the mo, you saying i should keep my faulty recon one or my noisy one might not be up to the job?

thanks

If the oil light is coming on when idling, you have issues.

Check the oil level. What is the type and grade of oil? Was the filter renewed?

With regards to the alternator, the "trickle supply" RC speaks of, is the small wire, that leads to a light on the dash. If its broken it won't highlight a fault, and will cause charging problems. I'd have thought if the battery light comes on though, it wouldn't be that thats at fault?

When runing , stick a multimeter over the battery terminals....do you measure approx 11-12V or closer to 14V???

When it does cut out, battery and oil lights coming on are normal due to the stall...thats not an issue....but oil pressure at idle is a problem.

As mentioned though, the oil pressure sensor circuit is grounded through the block, so it may still be a ground issue.

another update,

done 130 miles in it now as i have a 100mile a day commute. Engine runs fine when moving but is still cutting out when coming to a stop, revs just drop down and cut out. It starts fine enough but will only start with a dap of throttle otherwise it will keep turning over!

If is doesnt stall it idles at 600rpm and sounds rough as,

any ideas?, is there a connection on the tb that would cause this is wired up wrong?

thanks

i had a look and play around with the idle control today but still no joy, could there be some gunk stuck in it preventing the air from getting in?

Any other things to check?

EDIT: one other thing worth mentioning is that this is a p75 tb that i have not used before so cannot vouch if it ever worked, is it looking likely its a dirty/fauly stepper motor?

thanks
