Hi,

Picked up my cinq today after getting a trusted garage to fit the 1242 i had. I have renewed nearly everyhting on the engine with new head gasket etc..

The problem being that the car runs from cold fine but when it warms up the idle drops from 1000 to 800 to 500 and eventually cuts out! After it cuts out it pretty much refuses to start with the started motor not even turning the engine over. Every now and then it will fire up with the key turned and a dab of throttle but only 1 in 10 maybe.

What is going on?

Its a 38mm throttle body that i have never used before, this afternoon i replaced the TPS from my old TB but the same still happens,

any ideas?

thanks

Happy New Year

I would initially say 02 sensor, as its the one thing that works only when warm, but I would suspect the temp sender. I assume its connected OK.

Cheers

I will have to check the connections then, O2 sensor was replaced 18 months ago but still worth a look i guess. When the engine is bump started it runs fine but just won't idle,

where would i find the temp sender?

thanks

Inlet manifold.

Also check the Idle Control Valve on the TB is connected.

Cheers

Right, i will look at the car on sunday, as i'm away at the moment, might get a spare temp sender just in case!

thanks

Right, update and the problem gets worse!!

I have been away for the weekend so got to work on the cinq in the afternoon.
I noticed the idle stepper was slighly loose so i tightened up this before trying to start it. I wouldn't start not even turning the crank, flat bettery i thought. After a jump start it fired straight away. Left it idle for 10 min took if for a spin, within 2 mins i had no dials working or lit up and the engine missfires and cut out!

After another jump it got going but wouldn't move far without cutting out again!

No power, no dials and misfiring. Is something draining the battery? I can't tell if this is a new problem or related to the other one!!!

Any ideas?

thanks

after some loeking in the dark and cold i decided enough was enough and got my friend with a flatbed to take it up the garage that fitted the engine, see what they say. The batt was so dead that the side lights were dimming!

My first experiences of a 1242 cinq have not been fun, only covered 15miles!

will keep you posted, thanks for your help,

nath

I tried doing that but the batt had no power so was never gonna turn over, i will find out tomorrow what the deal is,

i have a feeling that rallycinq is right with that earth strap, anyway i hope he is as i don't want another fat bill!!

thanks

Hey

If you paid the garage to fit the engine then surely they should do it properly and finish the job for you!!!!

right, update,

i took it to the garage and after a batt charge and a tightened earth cable as it was loose all seemed good but....

on getting home from the garage the car wouldnt start again! I thought maybe the batt has had it as it was old. Put a new batt on yesterday drive 30 miles and lost all power and engine misfiring until it cut out!!

Stranded in the middle of nowhere i called the RAC and the "Reconditioned" alternator has not been charging the batt!!

So a tow back to the garage and the old alternator will be fitted tomorrow so hopefully the end of all my problems!

what a pain!

thanks

another update and possibly another problem.

Alternator is working now and batt being charged but the car is still cutting out sometimes when coming to a stop after driving, the revs seem to drop to low then it cuts out. Its idling at about 800rpm but sometimes drops to 500rpm when coming to a stop. When it cuts of the oil and batt lights come on,

is this normal as the ecu learns the engine, it has a punto 75 cam so does this engine idle lower then my old 1108 naturally?

or is there somethink else i should worry about?

thanks

nathan

hello mate
yep it take a little while for the ecu to learn the 75 cam but after a while it should idle as normal, why did you buy a recond alternator if the old one is good?
