Re: oh oh oh plz sir me me me

Paul,
You should always upgrade the suspension and brakes as a first resort to modding, it is the safest option and will probably give you more gains in a b-road situation than a few extra horses anyway. Of course the cheapest way to go faster is to rip out all the interior/excess weight, but if that's what we wanted to do then we wouldn't have bought Bravo's in the first place would we??!!

re

i did loads of mods to my car then looked at tuning 1.6 but was never gonna get teh power i wanted, then cambelt went and was never gonna split up my brava so went for engine swap!!! and now have 250bhp! (well hopefully, shoudl be atleast 230) hehe was expensive though!

Nige - i was thinking of the nitrous intercooler spray? woudl he suply/fit this? and any ideas on how efficient it is? obviously only for dead hto summer days at santa pod or similiar!

Re: re

Why not just use a water spray? Not as good as a nitrous one but darn sight cheaper and still pretty good.

Re: oh oh oh plz sir me me me

The old crossflows... i know i am only 18 but i was building a westfield and that was going to have a crossflow in it! it was going to have 130bhp (supposidly), it was bored out from 1600 to 1650 (why?50cc) and i was gonna fit twin 40s on it! how i wished i finished that car!

re

i agree!

being able to stop quicker and corner better makes you quicker from A to B anyway!

i did 4 pots and uprated dampers long before i swapped my engine!

re

i have considered that, but the proper water spray kits i've seen are 150 - 200 quid!

i was gonna make shift one with my rear washer bottle for now, then maybe get a seperate tank if it seems to work well, but couldnt seem to fins any jets that would mist the water over rather than just normal waasher jets!

maybe you knwo where i could get some tom?

also i quite fancy the purely show off NOS purge valve! lol

Re: re

I've certainly seen suitable sprays, just can't remember where....

Ahh.. B&Q! You know that hosepipe you get which you install in the flowerbed and then sorta screw various spray heads into it?

Re: re

Is that aimed at me tom? or at allan! about the water injection?

About the brakes and suspension! i agree with what you are saying, but i was reffering to Bahney situation where he want a bit more power to go to and from work!

Re: re

The 1.8 is heavier and the 1.4 brakes would overheat in normal use.

Re: re

heh nice debate we have going on here :)

like i said engine swop isnt an option if i were for example to drop a 1.8 in which would be cheap to do they are pleanty of scrapped ones about, i would have to upgrade my gearbox as well wouldent i ? then like tom says brakes would be next

i already have the coupe rear brake disks (no drums) and sone ebc pads for the front, but the pads won't last another 2,000 so i will proabibly get them changed soon and get some 6 grove disks all round

so in reality i have 3 options

1\ nos :- would cost a fortune in filling up the tanks and really not something i am overly comfortable with

2\ current engine upgrade :- 100bhp from my engine with some new cams and a chip i already have exhaust and induction kit so this should make it 100-105 hopefully all for the price as 100bhp shot of nos kit

3\ engine swop :- too much hassle and work and expence, if heaven forbit my ambelt ever snapped or anything then i would go for this option but as a performance option for what i need it is just to ott.

nige a price on the cams would be great mate :) infact you should just do a massive price list, lol is there a boo discount as well ?

re

to be honest i've never checked brakes that well, but i thought all the brakes were the same anyway! lol except rear discs of course. even so, some HGT hubs and discs/calipers woudnt be much from scrappy surely? then you would have brakes beyond the need for 1.8

if you find 1.8 engine there will probably be a gearbox with it, and will probably better to use the whole thing wihout splitting it, i.e. have 1.8 clutch aswell. . and they would probably have the brakes still on 1.8 aswell!

for the money you would spend getting cams and a chip? you would get all the parts i would have thought? and fitting shoudnt be so bad as no one off bits etc needed?

Re: re

1.2/1.4/1.6 solid discs
1.6 auto/1.8 vented discs
HGT bigger vented discs

re

ah! well, i'm sure whichever breaker you got engine from would throw in brakes to close a deal with you!

Re: re

Rather than spend loads of money trying to hit the 150bhp mark from a 1.8 why dont people fit a 1.8 T-Spark 16v from the alfa romeo 145/146/155/156? it has 144bhp standard, I beleive them to be easily remappable, and they bolt straight on as its the same 1747cc lump with Alfa head. You'll need parts of the wiring loom for the Twin Spark ignition and the ECU of course but you can pick them up for around 2-300 quid! If you're looking for any amount of reliability, NOS is not the way forward!

re

true, only suggest 1.8 bravo lump so it was dead easy straight forward swap!

Re: re

@graham!!!!

You are a diamond! i have never thought of that!!!! I would still have a 1.8, but nearly as quick as ha HGT! that is a f*cking great idea! you have got me all excited!

Will my box and auxcillerys bolt straight on do you know!! also would my cam cover fit on it? that way it wont look any different to a standard engine!

@Bahney

If i get an alfa engine then you can buy my 1.8 off me, only dont 50k with full service! cambelt has been done to!

@Tom

What do you think about the alfa idea? what about a 2.0 twin spart? they are 167bhp i believe! this seems the cheapest way to get my car going faster! How much work do you think there would be? is it straight forward! try not to burst my bubble too much on this!lol...

Thanks all

Paul R

Re: re

No idea about the 2ltr twin spark. I thought they were 155.

Your cam cover won't fit a twinspark, not enough holes in it!

Re: re

Is the 2.0 a four pot? doesnt matter though because the 1.8 wouldnt need nmy auxillerys changing would it?
