Hi I just bought a 1.9 JTD diesel 2003 Stilo today. The car is great apart from the remote key fob, which is pretty useless. The seller had a new battery put in it yesterday for me, and says his local garage used the security code to reprogramme it.
He says the remote worked fine til he "played around with the car's computer". He reckons he had accidentally permanently locked the boot. He says that all of a sudden while he was driving the windows closed/opened (can't recall which he said now) and he could not get in the boot. After he found and changed the door lock settings the remote started playing up.
I can only lock and unlock the car using the key (not the remote). The remote light is flashing red all the time when the car is locked and I am at home. The buttons on the remote will usually lock the car OK, but not unlock it. On the rare ocassion that it does unlock (sometimes after pressing lock twice, the unlock works for a second) it only unlocks the front doors, not the back doors. This could be child locks I suppose? It then locks again quickly like it has an evil little mind of its own! I have a baby that I am paranoid will get locked in the car... I do have the remote key code but I reckon if I go to the FIAT dealer they will say I need a new key rather than fix this one. It's £130 plus VAT, then £20 to reprogramme. Ouch.
Any ideas on whether the remote is up the swanny or just needs reprogramming again? Or is it a computer setting? I am very confused!
