Just received a threatening letter from her majesty's finest, as I'd not replied to a fixed penalty notice I never received. Her word against mine.

On futher investigation it turns out I was caught doing a blistering 42mph in a 30mph zone. I know where it was, I do it every day along with everyone else.

Anyway, I was caught by some copper hid behind a bush or up a tree or something, and the hand held camera took a picture of my reg. as well as the speed.

So, although fixed cameras now have to be painted with pretty colours to make them stand out; with handhelds they can still hide and zap your wherever, whenever.

I agree

I know the feeling, I got caught doing 39 in a 30....copper hid behind a land fitted for sale sale sign, which was next to a wall. What I would do is send a letter asking them to send you proof of the speeding offence, this will bide you a bit of time, or if they get stroppy tell them you have asked for 1. It got lost in the post did your letter to them.

I think traffic cops are the scum of the world, mind you a know a lot of plods and they think the same. just sat there waiting to catch you rather then nicking the joy racers.

Hope you get it cleared up

Crazy

There is an interesting article on MSN today regarding a study carried out by Autocar magazine. Have a read, it will probably make you more angry. The whole thing is a farse. I'm not condoning speeding at all, I think that fixed cameras are a good idea in urban areas. But hiding in a bush is taking the ****.

The whole issue is there for making money, let no-one tell you any different. What's next? A copper hiding in your cupboard to see if you're doing any illegal activities in your own home?

Re: I agree

The other thing you should do is ask plod for a copy of the guns calibration certificate from the same day. They have to be able to proove that the Gun was working correctly too.

crazy indeed

I live in Dublin and here in Ireland we have Gardai hiding with cameras all the time plus the fixed cameras
don't have to be clearly marked and you often only see them as you pass. Its a pain.

Stopped on Monday

I got recorded on Monday on the A46. The guy was sitting in a huge flourescent striped Renault van with what looked like a Pathe news camera pointing out of the doors on a straight piece of road in broad daylight!

I didnt mention it before as I felt such a tit, especially after my escapade last year when I undertook a fully marked police volvo at 30mph over the limit in roadworks.

I seem to be concentrating on the road and other drivers to notice things like that!!!

I await the post from HM!

Ho Ho

I didn't even know about it until this morning. If you see the road where it happened I think he must have been dressed up as a pantomine cow with his mate in one of the fields.

In these cases, points do certainly not make prizes.

Re: Ho Ho

I think at the end of the day we all better enjoy what little speed freedom we have now.
In a few years yime you wont be able to fart without a copper sniffing it.
