Hello all,

I've been having some unusual lag when accelerating since yesterday. The response when I push the gas feels mushy and takes maybe a second longer than usual? So I started looking for air leaks among other things.

Everything I can see seems ok except for the section of rubber pipe from the cooler to the throttle body. See attached photos.

These cracks are not new though, they've been there for a couple years at least. If I squeeze, I can see the reinforcing thread in some of them. Is this acceptable/cosmetic wear for 12 year old rubber sleeves or cause for replacement?

I'll see if I can do a soap bubble test tomorrow.

'Rubber' hoses often rot on the outside where they are exposed to light etc, but remain perfectly fine on the inside. So you need to look at the inside, not just the outside.

Continuing the search, I found soot on the rigid pipe from the turbo to the cooler around the area where it passes next to the EGR valve at the back.

If I stick my hand in the area with the engine idling, I can feel a strong pulsing jet of air on my fingers.

It smells like exhaust under the hood.

Attached a photo from underneath the car; I have not been able to pinpoint the exact location yet but I'll try with someone to help.

It seems to come from the section of corrugated pipe circled in red, not from the gasket but from between two corrugations. I can't see it directly, I can only feel for it.

Would this explain the unusually mushy acceleration?

And here it is. I would like to try to replace this myself; I've seen that I need to have new gaskets at the ready and fresh coolant to top up. Any other pitfalls re: removal of the EGR assembly?

the rubber hoses could be rock solid and the clips will probably want destroying. The bolts will probably be a pig to undo.
the hose is 16mm ID and the smaller one is either 10mm or 8mm. its just standard coolant hose.
