Any idea what can be wrong if coolant leaks?Water pump is new. Does anyone have experience with this problem?
I have Fiat Ulysee, 2.0, 2004.

'pends where it's leaking from.
Could be damaged water pump/gasket, split hose, damaged rad, stat housing/gasket. Temp sensor not seated properly (ptfe tape). Head Gasket or simply needs a new cap on the reservoir.

Just a thought, if water pump is new, was all the old gasket removed from both faces? (I like to use a liquid gasket in addition to the thin bits of paper/cork), also were the hoses pushed fully back AND were the jubilee clips fully tightened?

Well we hoped that maybe its just webasto ( this car have it just for liquids) and we did bypass and tured off the webasto. But its still the same, even worse. The problem is, that its nowhere to see where it leaks. Nothing is wet.
I think the sensor is ok, because coolant is realy going somewhere. Also the cap is ok.
I will check if they removed gasket from both faces.

Hi mate,

If you cannot see any visible leaks anywhere, then its worth having the headgasket checked. A failed headgasket can cause loss of coolant, and as its going internally into the engine, there will be no visible leaks to see.

Hope that helps,
Alan

Alan we tought about that. Its possiblle thats the problem, but just yesterday one said that its strange. Car has just 125000, he works normally-no overheating, and also coolant isnt mixing with oil-oil is normal.
I dont know, i cant be smart anymore:)

It depends where the HG has gone - it could be that it has gone where a waterway is close to the pots & so coolant is being pushed into a pot - from where it is being evaporated.

And now you mention a webasto - glad you checked it. i had one on my old bus & that really used to suck the coolant dry when used to heat the bus, I couldn't believe how much coolant it would use

Try to get the coolant system pressure tested, putting some pressure on the head of coolant will force it out of where it is going - if you can't see it dripping out anywhere then it HAS to be the HG

Ok now im really depresed..from three days ago i have to refill the collant every 50km..but still no leaking, at least no visible..
sludgeguts- tnx for idea, we will definitly check the pressure. At least i will be sure if its the HG.

One more question..any idea if its possiblle to put some liquid with UV and than check where it leaks with UV light?

I was under the impression that coolant had a UV dye already added for this very reason.

BTW, you could jury rig a pressure test on the coolant by using a pump to put air into one of the small hoses going into the header tank (make sure to block the hole when you remove the hose)
With the car sat idling it still drinks coolant?
And there's no puddles underneath the engine bay?

If it's not leaking 'out' then it's either leaking into the pots OR the engine is overheating and the coolant is simply evaporating (which is what the cabing heaters - like webasto - do when they are pumping out the heat) and you may have a faulty temp sensor.

Yes, im trying to find some services where they have this pressure test and we will check that for sure..

Nope, i didnt noticed..but i didnt left him running for long..and i also didnt try what happens if car is not moving for at least one day-because i need it daily.

Nothing..everything is dry..before we did a bypass with webasto, was leaking underneath it, but now..nothing.

But coolant is leaking every day more and more. But i dont think that engine is overheating because temp. comes till 90° (that is normal) and it stops there. Its not going over that.Im also checking head tank of the coolant every time i go somewhere. I put the coolant in to MAX and when im driving about 20 min it starts beeping that is LOW ( and realy is ).

P.S. im sory if im not writing corectly, but im from Slovenia and im trying. Till now im already expert in english words and everything about cars :):slayer:
