hi all
i have a 1993 1.6 sx i.e.
i`m bored with my single point injection so i`m thinking about swapping it with a carb from a tipo/tempra, i know i`ll get the whole manifold+carb but what i`m asking for is :

1- will my ignition system work with the carb? i have a ( digiplex2 + distributor with rotor arm + coil lead attached to my battery base )

2-the carb won`t need all the plugs and cables that is currently attached to the S.P.I so how can i override them

any help will be appreciated

thanx

andy if u read this i just want you to know that i didn`t get a single reply on GC, thanx anyway

I thought the I.E was multipoint.

I have also heard my Carb being reffered to as an SPI (Single Point Injection) by Mechanics.

So you may have a Multipoint Injection System and if not you may just be going from SPI to SPI with a different looking set-up

If I am right (probably not or not entirely) then why would you do it?

And in answer to your question..... I don't know :p

hey trancendental

m.p.i in tipo`s is only in 1.8 and 2.0 versions
s.p.i is so much different from carb`s but you can say it`s a electronically controlled carb with some differencies in fuel spraying system
and the reason i want to make the swap is that i`ll get 12 hp`s more with the carb
you can check the specs for the tipo`s 1.6 and 1.6 i.e
you`ll find that the carb version got some more power than the i.e version

Oh seen..

But isn't the 12hp difference caused by the CAT?

I think it is caused by the CAT, and 1.6 with carb has 78HP (SPI 75HP):chin:

hi all

you mean that the converter makes my engine lose 10+ hp`s
i`ll be more than glad to remove it or i`ll even get a catalyc free exhaust
by the way, it`s not me who said that the 1.6 carb got 86 hp`s
i`ve seen it on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Tipo
they say that the 1.6 got 86 hp without converter and 78 hp with converter
so i guess that with carb and no-converter, i`ll get about 15-20 hp more than i have now

thanx all

I agree with that, but as its written thats for 1,6 1586cm3 . Thats 1.6 DOHC.
If you have that one I agree, but I think that yours is 1581 cm3 SOHC.
(y)

P.S. Sorry for bad English

hey guy`s
yes, my car is 1.6 SOHC, we don`t have the 1.6 DOHC fiat or lancia versions in our market.
i still don`t know if to remove the CAT or just leave it there
thanx

Removing the Cat and replacing with pipe will release more power.

Andy.
