Connecting Two comps together?

I have a network cable CAT 5 can i have tried to use this and it keeps telling me network cable unpluged?

is it something like a crossover cable i need?

if you look up the wiring diagrams you could re-wire yours. It's only 2 cables that need swapping

or get a cheap switch for a tenner and do it that way
