Hi Im new to here and come across a few problems with my Mrs punto. I bought her a mk2 1.2 8v 2000 punto. It needed a few things doing to it ie anti roll bar bushes bottom arm etcs. I came to doing the track rod ends and well it snapped off. So I've been out and bought another steering rack from a breakers but here's the thing it's off a mk2b but I was told by breakers it would fit everything fits bar the spline? Is there any specific way to do this? I'd appreciate any help given.

Met this issue myself my friend!
Not because i changed my rack - but because that UJ expanding shaft that mates to the splines is different on a mk2b to the mk2

I stripped a scrappy down for the shaft (mk2) went to fit it into my mk2b and met that issue

Mk2 - 3 spline setups
mk2b - 1 spline setup

On a good note - you can use the mk2b's expanding shaft on the mk2b's coloumn
its just a Square outlet peg

Here is the guide i made a while ago about changing the UJ shaft
Hope it puts some light onto the situation

If your on a phone app - the link wont work because of a weird issue

But its under the guides section --> Punto Mk2 / 2b --> How to change a punto steering coloumn shaft

I'm glad I'm not the only one whoa made this mistake then! Haha easily done I suppose. Thank you so much for the detailed guide I'm going to get down to the breakers and get the column off them and finish up :) I'll keep you updated if I struggle with this

Just hopefully you remembered to set the wheels straight before removal

Once that Shafts off - the steering wheel can spin around without limit - DONT LET IT DO THIS
it will damage the clock spring
Some masking tape will help with keeping it near straight
