I have been reading a few threads regarding sound systems etc and I want to get a system installed in my Uno but I haven't got a clue of what kind of set up to go for, people say not to go for 6x9's with a sub as the sound interfers etc.

what IS a good set up, Ive read about all the way of how not to do it but not many on how to start off etc!

All help appreciated

What sort of budget are we looking at?
Do you have any part of the system already?
What sort of music do you listen to?
How much space are you willing to allow for a sub/s etc?
What fabrication skills do you have?

If it was me, I would have a set of components up front, amped, with a sub (size dependent on what sort of music you listen to, etc) with a decent HU with thick cabling :) I forgot to mention soundproofing :D

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've got my HU already but I have got the boggo speakers in the car and I can't wait to get rid of them.

I don't mind spending a few hundred and build it up slowly kind of thing, im prepared to spend a bit if theres a nice sound at the end of it!:D

As for space that isn't a real issue but bare in mind its an Uno boot were talking about here.

Im a bit of an all rounder when it comes down to it, I like R n B, Hip Hop Dance etc drum and bass take it or leave it but really my thing.

As the boot isn't the biggest boot in the world I would be better off having a sub with the amp built in plus I don't want to load to much weight in the back due to the weight factor

Any recomendations of what to put up front along with a sub and amp?

Ok........there's plenty of space in a Uno boot for starters.............I have 2 amps, a 10" sub with enclosure and I can still access the spare and have a bit of boot space left :D My car? Its a Cinq......................:)

Best option, IMO, is to have a set of comps up front with a single 10 or 12 inch sub. Now I would personally go for a sealed enclosure over a ported one because

a They're more straightforward to design and build
b A sub would need a smaller sealed enclosure compared to a ported enclosure
c A sealed enclosure is good for SQ, but a ported enclosure gets a better 'drop'.

With your amps, it would be possible to get away with using just a single 4 channel amp - the JBL 75.4 springs to mind straight away. It costs £100 IIRC, has plenty of power to drive a single sub and a pair of components simultaneously (104WRMS x 2 for the components, and 284WRMS for the sub channel IIRC), and JBL's budget stuff is widely recognised as being superb for the cash (y)
With subs, you could either have a single sub or have a pair. Going for a pair may require you to have a 2 amp setup depending on what sub you go for (y)

So if we say £300 in total, including cabling (£50 would easily cover it - I would use 4 or 0 awg cabling :)), we have £150 for a sub and set of components....................you can then add some soundproofing at a later date or do a bit when you first install stuff, then do a bit more when you have a bit more cash etc etc. Soundproofing would also make the car a bit nicer to drive in general :)

If you give me a minute, I'll see what £150 could get you...................:)

Subs

Assuming a budget of £30 - £60 here for a single sub

The problem with having one amp powering it all is that choice can be limited :D, and if you want to extend your system further in the future, you may not be able to reuse the amps due to unsuitable impedances, for example.

I suppose it all depends on how likely you will upgrade in the future. Have a look around, try to build different systems on a piece of paper and see what you come up with. Any questions, problems etc stick a post up and someone will bound to help you (y)
