Went to get a quote for my Marea on confused.com however it does not recognise the numberplate. The plate was changed when it was bought as it had a private plate which the owner wanted to keep. When I put that plate in S40 JCK it shows up as a Marea Weekend TD75...

On the DVLA site my plate shows up as my car.. and S40 JCK doesn't show as registered... I'm so confused by confused!

DVLA computers aren't direcyly linked to the insurance companies computers, the insurance companies buy the data from eachother and the dvla, which means that it can take some time for your car to be registered correctly on insurance databases - However on the other hand insurance companies update the dvla insurance databas all the time with details of vehicles which have insurance.

It's always worth ringing up to follow up a quote. I've been quoted silly money (Over £1k) for the Marea and they've managed to drop it down by upto £250 on the phone.

It's also worth telling your current insurer that their renewal is silly and you want discount for clocking up another years NCB, and a reduction for customer loyalty. I've been getting quotes of between £650-£800 (24yr old/3yr ncb/5yr driving/gp10 car). Renewal £690. Haggled on phone - quote £624. Check details (alloys off, use of other car) - quote now £580. Yep I'll have that one please.
