'Concerned.....'

Imagine the scene, you're approaching the lights, on red. you slowly start droppin thru the gears, when all of a sudden the lever won't go into 3rd, or any other gear! it was kinda 'locked'. no crunching just as if there was no gear slot there, when i rolled to a stop i put it in reverse. a loud crunch happened, then i tried puttin it in gear again, it went in a bit rough but hey the 'box 'unlocked', what the hell happened?

is my box on way out?

i dont want this happenin again, especially as 5 mins before it happened i'd been on the dual carriageway tonnin it.
