General common problems of the cinq?

As much as I love the Cinq there does seem to be some common faults/problems with a few models I have come into contact with......

am I correct to assume the following are common faults??

Central locking. You can open a door then about 2 minutes later the central locking decides to kick in. Sometimes when locking the car, the car unlocks by its self.

Handbrake. Pulls away from the floor easily.

Speedo. I know of THREE cinqs whos speedos packed up!!! - why is this?

just out of interest has anyone else noticed any other common problems with the cinq??

One of the most common faults I've found is the seat runner handle snapping. I don't know of one person that hasn't suffered this at some stage. It's not happened to me on my Sporting but one of the handles has been welded, meaning it's happened before!

It only takes a search of the Technical forum to see the most common problems. Most of which are explained on the Clubcento How To guides

yes! when i bought my cinq that was snapped off!! - its fixed now though, i managed to get a 2nd hand one.

yep my cinq had the handle snapping

other commen faults has to be the fuel tank leaking in one form or another

head gasket seems to go an awfull lot

clutch cable....

the list IS pretty long

Seat tilt handle cable either snaps or comes loose on occassions too. That's always a great surgical task to re-attatch

whenever the locks used to pop up on the sei when i attempted to lock it, i used to make sure that all doors where shut , that cured it instantly

most of the cinq's i have been looking at have had oil leaks around the rocker cover, handbrake's have been virtually non existant, and on some the baffels have gone in the exhaust

There are design flaws (character) and there are problems due to neglect? maybe...:

design flaws

speedo (was changed under warranty)
fuel tank (was changed under recall)
clutch cable (dodgy hook - rhd conversion??)
handbrake (just rubbish...annual overhaul required)

neglect? maybe...

head gasket (not changing coolant)
all manner of electrical nightmares from plugs to lambda (italian - expected!)
hopeless oe dampers and rear arm bushes

don't focus on the -ve

accept them, replace with uprated parts and enjoy the ride!

thats an easy fix dont let that put you off buying one, new rubber gasket £3 an a bit of blue hylomar, it will be fixed

i dont mind doing a few things, but think my b/f is being very fussy and expecting a perfect car, which i dont think is out there. just out of interest how much would i be looking at at changing the rear arm bushes? saw a nice chinq but the brakes were poo and rear arm bushes were gone

you will never find the perfect cinq. simply becuase they probably didnt come out of the factory perfect. i had my handbrake fixed by fiat to factory standard and a few days later it didnt work... they really are useless.. i added my own finishing touches to the mechanism (a few nuts and bolts in place of plastic things) and its done the job and i havent had problems since.

ifd the brakes on that car are rubbish then its prob best avoided. it might be something more seious that just pads or disks. dont want a fault master cylinder etc.

saying they are rubbish tho. what car are you comparing them to? standard cinq brakes arent exactly the greatest anyway.

replacing the rear bushes by a garage will cost alot.. its not a quick job and if you go for the oem bushes they will be gone again sooner than you would expect. the powerflex ones are the way to go but like i said... its not a quick job and is probably atleast a few hours labour on each arm as it envolves removing the arm in the first place, replacing the bushes (need to be pressed out) and then putting back in.. and then the brakes will need bleeding aswell.

you probably wont find a cinq with standard bushes that arent on the way out.

buying a cinq, you cant be rediculously fussy, not on a budget anyway. you wont find one to your budget and requirements as they dont exist. just find one thats electricaly good and that the engine runs good. things like brakes are important and unless you can gauruntee its just the pads or disks or just needs bleeding, ide avoid. but if it does need bleeding then you need to ask why air has gotinto the system in the first place...

Only common faults I've had were clutch cable and handbrake, clutch cable was replaced and will no doubt pop again one day. Handbrake was like many describe for the first two years when on the third MOT a different cable was used and it's like the handbrake on any other car TBH.
