Hi all, the clutch on my Bravo 1.4 turbo has been squeaking, I've attached a clip. I assume it's not the inner parts, but the pedal parts in the foot area.
The noise disappears after being depressed over half way.


I've assumed the thin long rod attached to the clutch causing it, but it has grease on it, the white block on the pic, I've also sprayed a bit more, but it's very difficult to see due to the angle.

Anyone has experienced this squeaking issue?

I've read threads where some part of the clutch can brake on the 198 Bravos, and make it impossible to change gear. Can someone point out that weak area? Thanks

Apparently the end of pedal part, where it spins, causes the squeaking.
I'd asked if that part could brake off, there's been threads about it.
 
Hi Sylvester, sorry you haven't had much help with this.

I don't know about Bravos, but a squeaky sticky clutch is common on modern Pandas & 500s.

It's usually possible to pop the rod off the pedal, then you could confirm if the squeak is coming from the pedal.

Other common causes are the master and slave cylinders. A bit of silicone grease under the rubber boot where the rod goes in to the body of the cylinder usually shuts them up

Cheers for the reply, there's white grease on the rod and underneath the pedal, but the squeak is still there.
I've read stories where the pedal support actually broke off, hence I’ve been looking into it. As long as it just squeaking, and no other issues, that's fine, but there's not much space, so difficult to pin point it. Thanks
 
Not problem, usually the spring or the rubber in rod, apply silicone grease and solved.
 
Hi, a late response but I'm writing anyways. I had the same problem. it's the round copper thing inside the pedal that goes on the round part on the clutch master cylinder.
The clutch pedal on the bravo is a nightmare to work with, most parts break down when you take it off and are very hard to find, 2 parts are impossible to find, and without those the pedal will have 1-2cm of free play (car still works fine) and you just can't find a replacement.
I'm talking about part 11 in the diagram with code 71748442, I tried 13 fiat dealerships and over 15 car parts shop and the only place you can find it is in lithania with 1-3 months shipping and very expensive, there is also no guarantee of delivery so they might cancel your order.
Oh yeah, I live in Italy, so you would think it would be easy to find fiat parts.. well not at all. All dealerships told me they don't have it, can't order it, and also since 2015 or so they can't even know if other dealerships have it because the software doesn't allow them anymore.
To fix your squeaking what you need to change or at least grease with PTFE grease is part number 6 with OEN 71748371.
It costs around 15-20 euros with shipping and this is the problem with this pedal, every part is from another supplier and shipping is expensive and the parts are hard to find.
To to this, you run the risk of breaking part number 5 in diagram with oen 46554494.
This part keeps the clutch master cylinder connected to the pedal and it might break when you take it off. All the other parts are reusable if not broken.
Taking the pedal off is kind of hard if it was never taken off and there is a pin on the part 46554494 you need to press on the pedal to take it off.
You cannot grease the pedal without taking it apart, I tried, doesn't work.

Thanks very much for your detailed reply. That's right, I've tried spraying white grease around the area, but nothing has changed.
My concern is, it'd break suddenly, which has happened to a few people here unfortunately. The squeaking alone wouldn't be a big issue, the colder it gets the less noise it makes, and I haven't notice a freeplay yet, but overtime could easily happen, it's the suddenly being stuck on the side of the road, because an impossible to find small piece, broke in the clutch assembly. I'll check the parts you've mentioned and see what I can do about it.

Nothing can really break to leave you on the side of the road in my opinion. The rod of the master cylinder goes on that round copper thing, which is glued to the pedal. The only point of contact is between those 2, you press the pedal, the copper thing pushes the metal rod, you release the pedal, the master cylinder pushes your pedal back by pushing into the copper thing and the pedal. Your clutch master cylinder can break and leave you in the road, but the pedal assembly itself not really. There are pedals where the master cylinder is attached with some pin on the side, that can break, this one is literally against the pedal straight, so the force goes directly onto the pedal itself, not on the side on some small attachment.

I've been paying attention to it, due to one of these threads.

I'm not sure my 2010 has exactly the same design, apparently there had been some changes, but I'm definitely keeping an eye on it. Thanks

If you look at that pedal, is just a piece of thin metal, it's not wide. Yours is wide and from plastic.
It's like this in the back. That copper cone is glued to the pedal body and the pedal body is very solid. The master cylinder rod goes inside that.
If the white plastic brakes, it's because the master cylinder is stuck/broken and you pulled the pedal back, that would be the only way the plastic can break, because when you push the pedal, force goes onto the pedal body, and the pedal is released automatically by the master cylinder by pushing the pedal back, again, onto the pedal body. The only time when you force the white plastic, is if you manually pull the pedal back, and the master cylinder is stuck. That should never happen. So with your design there is not really a possibility to break and remain in the road.

I really appreciate the detailed reply, good to know the design have been changed on my Bravo as well. I've had my fair share of being stuck on the road in the last 1 year, for different reasons, but good to know, it's unlikely the squeaking will cause the clutch parts to the break, 1 less thing to stress about. Exactly, unfortunately I'm not sure if it was like this before I took the pedal apart and that very little part fell down(it was already broken in half). It's just some play until the pedal engages with the master cylinder. Car works well anyways it's just weird when I drive this car after driving my other one. If you drive it everyday you don't notice it.

That's good to hear, I thought it's because of part no. 11 in the diagram that was broken in half and I could not find that part anywhere in dealerships or online. I just got used to it but I thought it's because of that broken part.

Hi, there's not much of freeplay there, which is good, it's the squeaking noise that was concerning, but Xarenwo gave a good explanation of what's actually going on. You may have watched the video with no sound, hence you think the freeplay was shown there.
 
Under free play I mean that at beginning the pedal can be pressed without much effort, but you need more effort to press it to the bottom
