My beloved Idea has broken down in Sardinia (Italy).
Is there any difference in the slave cylinder for left or right hand drive cars?

unlikely.. , hoses-YES, but the actual cylinder.. NO

Hi Charlie

I might be being thick but I did not see how to check l/hand against r/hand on your link. The garage here is fixated that the part is different but it seems -from your posting- that it may be the hoses?
The Garage claim that the cylinder is on order, but it seems that I ought to get them to order hoses as well just in case?
Any ideas are very welcome as we are due to leave on Sunday night!

Ahh, it was me being thick.
It looks like the same part no's for slave cylinder and hoses.
We have cancelled our ferry bookings and are just hoping that the right parts turn up on Monday.

Thanks for the good wishes. I picked the car up from the garage this evening. It seems it is a different part because it is Righthand Drive.
The big problem was the garage had not ordered the part last Tuesday as promised and so it did not arrive until this afternoon. Garage charged 120 Euros but the ferry and hotel cancellations cost me 200 euros. Anyhow car back on the road, which is all I needed. Incicdentely the damage to the old slave cylinder was 2 washers on the piston had slight cracks. In hindsight I am thinking it might have been possible to strip a l/h cylinder and use the new piston in the r/h cylinder. Just a thought, but it might save someone else a few days of misery!

what was the difference..?,
was the hose entry in a different place..??

I am afraid I cannot say what the difference might be as I did not see a L/H unit to compare.
We got back to blighty yesterday, clutch is fine. Unfortunately, I now have intermittent rear brake and indicator faults. I suspect it will be yet more poor wiring insulation, as I have already been through the headlights staying on saga.
The Idea is a great car, we brought a mass of stuff back and the cavernous rear took everything in, but why did Fiat skimp on the simple things that make ownership a misery! https://cdn-i.fiatforum.com/images/icons/icon8.gif
