Hi Folks.

I have a clutch problem that is similar to other threads, but not the same. My '99 105 JTD is difficult to engage first, second, and reverse gears but it gets worse when the weather, or the car, is hot (unlike cold on other threads). The car has done 120k miles and has had a new clutch in the distant past (before I got it three years ago), and now the weather is warming up will not engage at all sometimes. If I want to reverse out it either involves nasty graunching noises or engaging reverse gear before I start the engine. When I do this the car tries to go backwards, so obviously the clutch is dragging with the pedal fully depressed. However the pedal operation is good, biting quite high and doesn't slip, and pumping the pedal doesn't make it any better. I have tried to bleed the clutch but what looks like the slave cylinder has what looks like a bleed nipple on it but no hex flats to put a spanner on to loosen it.

Any ideas please? I don't mind having a go at most things but will not be paying £80 an hour for my franchise dealer to do it for me. Can anyone recommend a Fiat mechanic in Milton Keynes please?

Many thanks,

Biggles

If you pedal is quite high and the pressure is good forget about hydraulic problems. JTDs have a dual-mass flywheel fitted which may be the problem if it's not the clutch itself. Crunchy reverse is a sure sign of the clutch dragging. Whoever does your clutch it's going to be expensive , it's virtually impossible to be certain your DMF is ok so best to change it with the new clutch. (others will disagree with my opinion) Parts alone are likely to cost in excess of £350.

Mine did that when the clutch plate was fitted the wrong way round, dont ask.
