Hey people, any help here will be a great help. I was driving along last night, put the car into nutral as I went down a bank aproacing a round about, then tried to put it into third, but nothing. Would not go into any gear. So I had to pull over, turned everything off then tried again but it would not go into gear. I managed to get it into reverse while the engine was off but then as soon as I turn the engine on it would just stall. I managed to get home by pushing the car while the engine was off, then when it was rolling I could force it into first with a bit of a strugle, and then turn the engine on. I'm pretty cluless on things car related, but help with whats up or how much to repair and how long would help a lot. I own a 1.2SX 2002 Bravo. Many thanks, Gary.

Have you checked your brake and clutch fluid levels? Could be that your clutch slave cylinder has gone. Does your pedal go down when you press it and doesn't come all the way back up? If so it'll be either your master or slave clutch cylinder. If not ask TOM. LOL

Experience the same thing as you but then later noticed my clutch slave cylinder leaking.

But this is on a 1.8 Bravo and dunno if the 1.2 works alike? Worth checking, its below the Battery Shelf in your car, its looks like a cylinder with a rubber on it that pushes your clutch lever on and off.

Re: Clutch Problem

Hi

Have just had similar problem myself (on '97 Bravo 1.4SX with 67k).
Clutch had felt a bit rough for a couple of weeks, then it went to the floor and could not select any gears. The problem was the clutch pressure plate had collapsed allowing release bearing to go straight through and jam inside, hence no gears!
Only cure was complete new clutch, cost £270 at local independent garage. If you didn't experience any roughness of the clutch previously it may not be the cause but hope this gives you another idea to your possible problem!

Re: Clutch Problem

The clutch release bearing is a major weak point.

New clutch cost me £180 inc fitting on my 80sx 18 months ago

Re: Clutch Problem

Replace it with a good make part, not the cheapest you can get.

Delphi Borg and Beck is about the best.

Is that the clutch fluid thing? It's not marked in the manual and it's very low, below the minimum, even if it's not the clutch fluid level it can't be good that it's below this. Thanks again. Gary

Re: Clutch Problem

Thats the expansion tank, it will be below minimum when cold.

Re: Clutch Problem

After going to Halfords, I got told it could be the hydrolics, or the primary cylinder, because if you pump the clutch 10 or so times you can get it into gear and just about drive. But it's not regular driving still, it's more like riding with the clutch, you can rev as much as you like but nothing happens, just goes up to about 20mph. I'm not going to drive it this way as it can not be good for the car. But he quoted £300 to get this sorted, can anyone tell me if this is fair? Should I look around more? Thanks, Gary
