Whilst driving through France over the weekend my vehicle encountered a battery charge problem, which later led to the Airbags and ABS being disabled and later the speedo not working, and finally the inability to get any drive it seems as if the clutch has stuck. I presumed this was caused by lack of power as battery was vertually flat by this point. I think I have located the cause of charging problem 2 10amp inline fuses in battery compartment were blown. But still have Clutch problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, is the vehicle in some sort of lock out following the problems or is it just coincidence that clutch has gone at same time.

Come to the comclusion clutch must have gone, found 8 bolts in total holding gearbox to engine in total does this sound about right, but still cant get gear box to budge, very difficult when no haynes manual or any thing is available and very little on here with reference to mk 2
:bang:

Hi Leigh,
You can find the workshop manual on e-bay for a couple of quid.
I'll pm you the relevant pages from the workshop manual if you want, but it's better to have the cd yourself for total reference.
p.s.It's not an easy job b/c there's no space to work, you'll have to undo the engine supports to get the gearbox free i.e. you'll have to have an engine support bar or car lift.
That's only half of it, b/c the next challenge is the gearbox itself; up (not in the manual) you have to undo the steering rack and rest the gearbox dangerously close over the brake lines on the subframe which leaves you 10cms to work through, you have to be handy or (in the manual) drop the engine, which is obviously tough without a lift or ramp. Both the gearbox and engine are very heavy and difficult to handle without hoisting tools, be careful.
