Hi, got a 1998 sporting. Brief history of problem as follows:
1. Difficulty getting into gear.
2. Clutch cable snapped.
3. Fitted new cable, all okay.
4. Pedal hit floor again, it was small rod with ball joint snapped.
5. Fitted replacement, all okay.
6. Difficulty getting into gear again.
Whats the problem as clutch is not slipping as would normally expect but do have odd rubbing or crunching noise in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear under load. Reverse a joke, no chance.
Many thanks for any help and/or advice.

The thrust bearing (and the pressure plate springs) tend to go long before the friction material. Hence, slipping isn't usually an issue.

New clutch kit time, I'm afraid. Easy enough job for 2 people over a weekend. Draper Clutch Mate highly recommended (and cheap).

As it's a cable clutch, it requires adjustment throughout the life of the clutch.
