Hi Folks

Got a bit of clutch judder when first setting off on my 51 Plate 1.6 ELX

I don't have any problems selecting gears, no crunching or grinding, changing is smooth and there's no slip

Any ideas on the cause or solution

Regards

In answer to your question, yes I have the judder. Mine is a diesel elx 105bhp year 2000. I have it when selecting first and reverse gear. I have done a few searches for clutch judder, crunching gears, gear selection etc and came up with a few different answers. Take a look below.

There are more, but my solution is to give it a few revs when lifting off the clutch. I can put up with mine at the moment cause I mainly drive on motorways. Keep us updated with how you solve it.

Hi Taxiadam

Thanks for the links, it would seem that clutch judder goes hand in hand with difficulty in getting gears, I don't have any problems getting gears and it only judders in 1st and not reverse, increasing the revs does make it smoother, I am wondering if it is part and parcel of the misfire problem I am having

If you have alow speed misfire it could well encourage your clutch to judder. As yours is petrol it should'nt have a dMF so that won't be the cause. A year or so ago I had to put a clutch into a peugeot 406 which had a very low-speed misfire(despite spendin lots of time at pegeot dealers) and was impossible to drive without using extra revs if you wanted to avoid judder. Sometimes clutches judder when they have'nt been change for along time even when they're not worn out. Can be a very difficult problem to identify.
