Technical clutch cable stretch

Hi, Is it possible for a clutch cable to stretch to where it affects gear change? If so what is the remedy? Is it possible to adjust or should it be replaced. 1996 1.9td Ducato. Thanks, Ian.

Thanks rayc, Although my bite point is half way up the stroke of the pedal, the advice to adjust cable so pedal is in line with brake is invaluable. I believe the cable may have stretched but the addition of a couple of spacers should give me the adjustment I need. Time will tell and I'll let the forum know. Many thanks, Ian.
