Lo....

Time for a silly question from me :).

Angel's Tipo has started getting noisier and noisier at idle with the clutch disengaged (pedal up), and gears 1-4 and reverse are getting increasingly difficult to engage (reverse is near-impossible)....so Im getting the impression the clutch release bearing is starting to eat the pressure plate.

Also...its starting to sporadically leap out of 5th gear at any speed (usually 70mph+).

I havent yet checked the gearbox oil level...but before I follow a potentially very expensive hunch (and get the clutch replaced), does anyone know if this sounds more like the gearbox going up the proverbial creek?

Im also thinking it could be a bearing within the gearbox making that noise....

Your diagnosis Tom, sounds spot on. Pressure plate is knackered and prob the clutch as well and of course the release[thrust] bearing. Not a hard job on a Tipo 1.4 to do, so should not cost that much to replace.[dont use Mr Clutch!!]

Andy.:)

Also the linkage pivots sound like they might be seizing up.. While you're down there get them all nice and free.

Wouldnt be too sure of that Rob, as its sweet as a nut whilst going between 1-4.

Andy....cheers for that, although its made similar noises since we got it, Ive always suspected its maybe a bit lacking in Gearbox oil, as its got worse recently, but unless something has really gone up the spout (causing simultaneous failure of reverse and 5th), the symptoms seem more wear and tear rather than catastropic failure....and as for Mr Clutch, no...I was gonna see if a mate of mine (works at a local french garage) can do me a favour involving some beer and a small bribe (of sorts) ;)....

I would get the Cinq sorted, but Ive found a nice big hole in the NSR arch after the tyre blew out...so Im just waiting to get paid (later this week) and Im gonna go get me a MIG set :D
