Technical Clutch adjustment?

Well, first of all, you should try and diagnose the reason of why it doesn´t go into gear, how many miles has the car/clutch have, does the gear box have oil in it, loose gear selector, slack in the cable for whatever the reason... The clutch may be adjusted. In the download section in Cinq/sei there´s a manual. that states how to adjust clutch. clutch adjustment.JPG

If it IS the clutch. Its simple to adjust, its located low on the right of the engine bay. Look for the gearbox, feeding in to the top of the is a cable with a protruding long screw. You can turn the adjuster (white plastic) to adjust the clutch.

BUR let me say, I thought I needed a new clutch. It turned out to be the gear cable selector.

Tell us. Is the car hard to get in go EVERY gear, or are some more troublesome than others?

Because finding it 'hard to get in to gear' sounds more like a gear linkage problem. People often misdiagnose gear selector problems on seicentos, tighten the clutch cable, stretch the clutch cable, break the clutch cable, blame the clutch cable. When all along the problem was one of the 2 gear linkage cables had become stretched and frayed making selecting gears like stirring a melted chocolate bowl... Sheer pot luck if the right gear is selected. If the op posts which gears are hard tio select, it will be easier to help

I've yet to see a broken (or stretched) gear cable. I've only ever heard of one braking (and that was just malfittage on a short throw mechanism). And I've been doing the damn things for over 10 years.

Broken clutch cable (or quadrant) is almost invariably worn out clutch or fubared clutch arm pivot bearings.

Hell, cable clutches (on everything but a few Rovers) need adjusting periodically -- unlike hydraulic systems, they can't compensate for clutch wear.

Got to agree with fingers, problems with gear selector are rare with the cento from my experience!

With the engine off and try to select all your gears, if is still hard to select then it safe to say is box or selector or cable problem.

agreed, never had to change selector cables on a cento in 10 years of ownership - its almost always the clutch on the way out and a cable adjustment tends to get you a tiny more bit of use before it goes resulting in snapped cable, the quadrant is becoming more and more common failure too but i suspect thats just cause the plastic is older and more brittle nowadays.
