Hi all got a 99 sei sporting, with a crunchy second gear, I know that its just the clutch in need of adjusting and I'm sure I read some where on here you just need to turn a nut - only thing is I don't know where that nut is?

Thanks in advance;)

Open the bonnet, stand on the passenger side of the car looking down (if poss, get someone to depress and release the clutch). You should see the clutch cable coming out from the bulkhead, and as you follow it forward, you'll see it pass through a metal lever (the clutch lever): on the other side of this is a big nylon nut (probably with as 13mm locknut) undo the locknut, turn the big nut, retighten the locknut.

Thanks for you're prompt reply, just had a go and it seems as though the nylon nut is threaded, so when adjusted to where I require it - it just slips back to where it was, the lock nut isn't there so av bin hunting a suitable replacement,, suppose this is all just part of the fun

Thanks again I don't know where I would be without this forum, probs drivin one of them horrible saxos :nono:

yeah i just had a second+closer look (from underneath this time) the nylon nut had a rounded end that sits inside the clutch lever every half turn, I'v adjusted it up a LOADS it no longer crunches unless I make a quick gear change - once the cars warmed up, knackered clutch maybe? somethin isn't right, since adjusting when the clutch is held down it makes a light jingling noise, and the car keeps just cutting out (I have made a differant thread about this) but I noticed tonight it's when the clutch is pressed, could the clutch maybe have somethin to do with this?

Thanks

Just had someone check it out, they reckon map sensor or lambda + new clutch, this car is getting annoying!!!!!:mad::mad::mad: Plus drove down a country road yesterday and something smashed drivers side headlight - GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so let's see, since buying less than two weeks ago I have changed oil/oil filter, air filter, plugs, fuel filter, have had crank sensor off +cleaned it - probs need a new one, noticed steam coming off radiator, noticed it cuts out which is either clutch keepin hold or a bloody sensor, may need a MAP or Lambda sensor, smashed headlight - didn't realise had done it till later on in the day:bang: (n)(n)(n)- y are these things called smilies - IM NOT SMILING, the only consolation is that it doesnt need head gasket - but it does need rocker cover gasket!!!!!!

No, I checked around the car for leaks and what-not all seemed clean, car was started but no test drive:eek:, yes I am blonde, bought it from ebay - was 40 miles away from home so if on the drive back it broke down I would have taken it back even if it meant towing it 39 of them miles, and lastly I wouldn't have noticed anything on a test drive anywho as problems only start once the car is warm:bang: Have contacted the seller just waiting on his reply.

Life is like this. My recent purchase has needed a handbrake cable, new radio, will need new clutch, substitute gearbox (existing one is noisy), new suspension bushes all round, new master cylinder, new pot joint, replacement of all top end oil seals (but will get a new cylinder head and tricker at the same time) and one tricky and two very tricky pieces of welding. The car wash took the aerial off on Sunday........... and a slightly hunting idle probably means that the MAP is on its way out.

Still, 195/45/14s mean it handles like a go kart and it'll hit 110. It's not all bad....... ;)

These cars aren't getting any younger, a 9 year old car will not always be trouble free and sh*t happens. IF you have a cinq these are even older so have more chance of going wrong

If you think how it has spent those last 9 years being the type of car it is then you can understand it for eg it will always have lived outside in all weathers probably used for lots of short runs, driven by young drivers and ragged, lots have been "first" cars or learner cars, many will be low mileage but all that mileage done in town (so lots of use of the clutch and engine will have spent lots of time running at it's hottest), they will have been serviced on mileage every couple of years if lucky and probably outside the dealer networks.

Cento's are good cars but like all cars have known problems, if you research well and take your time to find one then there are some crackers out there that have been truely spoiled but these take more and more finding. especially with earlier Cinqs now i'd say there are more bad ones out there than good ones

Not far off! ;)
And you reckon thats the map sensor? hmmm... so it seems like I might now be replacing quite a few bits this weekends :p
Noone else seemed to know what the hell caused that judder.
