Clunking noise from suspension and gearbox grinding

On my Punto ( i know its not a bravo) im having a problem with the suspension.
When travelling at low speeds and stationary, and i turn the wheel, there is a loud clunking noise from what i presume is the spring, and sounds like a spring uncoiling, it started of doing it only when stationary, and then when slow moving, but now its doing it more and more, ive been told it could be the top mounts, but i wanted to check further before i assume it is that.

Also whenever i slip down into 2nd gear, it always grinds whilst doing so, i have a gearbox leak from the driveshaft, but i have recently topped the gearbox oil right to the top, and this has made no difference, what could the problem be?

Any help appreciated

Your best bet would be to jack it up,give the wheel a good pull around checking for excess movment, then take it off,and check for movment in all the running gear, from what you have described you will find somethin wrong/worn brocken.

As for the gearbox it may be damaged from running it on low levels of oil.

Or the clutch could be on its last legs.

cheers mate, but im wondering what it could be without having to take the wheel off, lol, im lazy

i had a similar noise on my bravo took it to garage
lat week they told me it was steering rack so had it fixed and it runs perfect now but it did cost me £360

Always check your track rod end bolts are tight before saying your S rack is knackerd, seen this situation a couple of times.
