Hi all
Got a 2007 Ducato motorhome and noticed a thumping sound on starting
Any ideas , it's under warranty , but forewarned is forearmed as they say
Cheers guys

There is a thread on this that I started some time back called "bump on start" I think. Seems to be only on the 3 litre motor. I have had engine mounts replaced and a new dual mass flywheel to no good effect. Fiat then sent out a service manual instructing that a new engine mount had been produced that was stronger. Had that fitted - worse than ever. I have been away on a long trip, now back, and I am on the verge of going back once again to the dealership to have it followed up further. Found that levering the motor against the torsion bar stopped it so it is a positional thing I think. Anyway, onwards and hopefully upwards....
Let me know if you have any joy working it out.
Ian.

Mines the 2.3 if that makes a difference , are fiat still fixing them even though it's 2007 model ?

You could experiment by addding wedges to the gaps in the mount and if you find a setting that works make it permanent with tigerseal / sikaflex, don't go overboard with the sealant though I put too much in my gearbox mounting once she was vibrating like a wasker plate I had to drill them out :)

Yep. That is an option but, at this stage, I'm putting the onus on Fiat to fix it. Might be head against a wall but am trying.

Will eventually go my own way if they continue to fail.

Unlikely Fiat will honour the fix at this age. FWIW, there's an article in the latest MMM magazine (May 2016) detailing how to fix the judder on the 2.3 engine. The "kit" (parts) come in at £1100 and the author's labour was £640. Closing comment in the article was that there was significant improvement but not 100% cure. IMO, it's worth getting the magazine just to read the article.

My MH is under warranty until January 2018 so they have no choice but to honour the warranty. The fault has been logged and inspected and found "unacceptable" so I feel they need to fix it and should. If I start farting around with it, I would lose that right I think.

had my burstner now two years with lump on start up, seems to be getting less and less now tho, checked engine mounts on starting no movement, now looking at rear torsion mount was going to try replace starter motor but my mercedes mechanic ruled that out after listening to it, why do people with motorhomes always seem to get a bum deal when we spend thousands on them.

"Thump on starting" and "reverse judder" are two separate issues. Unfortunately, both issues are common to both MHs and commercial vans, so MH owners are in the same boat
