Hi all,

I have a mark 2 fiat punto sporting with the standard six speaker system and the standard subwoofer in the boot. I have done some reading on here and the net and i think i have a pinout for the car harness now. The stereo i have which isn't fitted is a VR3 vd630. This only has 4 45 watt outputs.

My questions are:

The tweeters at the front, how do they know only to use the high frequency range or are they not clever, or have i missed the point of tweeters and they do something else (i am clueless)?

The sub. I gather this is 100W? if it is thats great. I also gather it is wired straight of the rear speakers? Is the sub amplified? if not i'm guessing my head unit is underspeced.

I have 2 alpine 6 by 9's is it worth putting these int? in which case i would need to use my amplifyer as well but surely al this would be over basy.

I think maybe my best option is to buy a standard head unit. Any one got any good suggestions for what works well on these cars?

Thanks in advance
Ed

if i were you i'd buy some decent components for the front and install an amp to power them, and stick an active sub in the boot, it's a really simple set up but sounds amazing, the factory sub is awful, what you should do is remove it then drive over it :),

components use crossovers which separate the different frequencies and direct them to the right speaker, woofer/mid-range/tweeter, depending on whether you're using 2-way or 3-way components,

hope that helps
