If you want basic affordable cleaning and care without busting the bank, look into getting the following:

> Turtle Wax car shampoo
> Jumbo sponge
> Rectangular bucket (afterall, the sponge isn't round)
> Autoglym Super Resin Polish (red label)
> Meguairs Cleaner Wax
> Chamois leather
> Silicon water blade

There are more products you can get depending on how far you want to take it but for basic care, a wax like the megs is a good start. Super Resin Polish is a good way to get a shine and remove some very light scratches but I'm not overly keen on the white residue so prefer the cleaner wax (depends on how much time I have).

Keep the cleaning up and that will be a huge boost for the longetivity of the paintwork. You don't have to wax/polish it every time, just once in a while will go a long way.

Something is better than nothing.

Different people will have different opinions and preferences. Its a case of finding products that you like and can work with.

Don't get one of those blades to wipe water off as they can cause scratches (any dirt will be dragged over the paint).

Sponges aren't the best so get a wash mit (again less chances of scratching)

Scrap the chamois and get a micro fibre trying towel (again helps to avoid scrathces)

You could go all out and use the two bucket method but thats a bit anal imo. lol

See, each to their own :)

Also, avoid using a "cleaner" was with a polish (Autoglym SRP) as a cleaner wax also contains polish so in essence, you're doubling up with the abrasion.

By and larg, the stuff sold off the shelf in out local "auto supermarket" is rubbish. Go to one of the detailng sites and order on line.

Wash - any decent shampoo will do (don't use washing up liquid).

Polish

Wax

The best you can afford will give the best results.

Definately a personal thing lol.

I tend to use more meguires products than anything else, although I've just gave the GT the auto glym aqua wax treatment and I must say, great product for using inbetween the proper wax treatment.
