I thought GT was the 1.4 version, but this wasnt. Its a 1.6 16v (old VTS engine I assume) And its got no power steering, air con, electric windows etc (kinda like the rallye)

Must admit it looked the mutts nutts. Red, on white OZ Superturismo's, with Tarox 6 pots at the front. A fairly subtle exhaust. It was comfy for 2 inside, 4 though it was much worse than the punto.

The interior seemed very 'cold' but I'm sure its not meant to be a cosy car.

The performance was a little dissapointing too. Made all the right noises from the exhaust, but it just felt dead in comparison to the punto. But then I do love the kick of a good TD lump.

Looks 9/10 (10 if you spot the 6 pots!)
Interior 5/10 (Nothing special but no rattles - hence score)
Performance 4/10 (7 if you've never been in a faster car, it did sound fast, but didnt feel it)

Overall 6.5/10

(on a side not I LOVE red cars on white OZ Superturismos, and I would love an ibiza sport tdi 130 like that!)

Didnt get a drive, held the road pretty well from what I could tell (lowered and wide 17s) and stopped like every junction was a brick wall (6 pots!)

I have fallen for red cars with white wheels in a big way now :p

Is it just me, or have citroen really cocked up their entire range in terms of visual flair?

been like that for decades, can you think of a citroen thats nice to look at? the saxo wasnt bad, but only in comparison because the 106 wasnt finished properly. apart from that i'm struggling to think of a nice looking citroen ever. c2 is definately the best looking these days, and tbh its hardy bonny.

but i can see a method to the madness, if PSG keep citroen ugly it makes peugeots look better.

The C2 GT has the standard 110bhp 1.6L 16V as used in other models like the C2 VTR, except it uses a manual gearbox instead of the sensodrive sequential box. There is a C2 VTS which has a 125bhp 1.6L 16V engine and manual gearbox with shorter ratios, rejigged suspension and quicker steering. That goes much better, but you really have rev the engine a lot more.

I'm not a huge fan of the interior either, the seats are nice, but I think the dash doesn't look the best. The digital instruments look cheap and nasty.

when your driving it the driving position is not dissimilar to a french mpv

i know what you mean. i did 70 miles driving a megane scenic on friday, it reminds me of a shrunken transit van. the 1.6 engine was so slow i was scared to pull out at junctions. gearchange was possibly the worst i've ever experienced. (n)

LOL, and SO many people actually buy th useless 1.6 thinking it'll cost em less in the long run (insurance/tax/fuel), but they actually struggle to manage 35 lugging all that weight around and trying to get somewhere. the lower powered diesels and 2.0 petrols are a better choice.

drove an avantime two wkd's back, and my god, I want one. no idea what power they get out of that 6pot but the gears are mega short (you need 4th to get to 60 without lining it), beautifully upholstered inteiror (not the normal cut and stick pritstick jobs the french usually supply), awesome dash, mpv driving position, however the cabin plastics make you feel lower down (like a RRsport), and goes round corner bloody well.
was rather a bit of money for a late 02, and the paintwork *was* beautfiul when new, but had more scratchs, dings, marring than anything i've seen before, really abused (n)
the avantime is possibly one of the only 'modern' french cars that I would actually like to see in my 'dream' garage.

I know the bloke who bought #0001 of the C2GT's, it was absolute ****, he was forever taking it back and forth to the garage and the engine nearly fell out of it, stay away!

Test Drove a vts, red with white GT wheels I was gonna buy it! But I wasn't impressed with the performance and like mentioned before you must rev it hard to get the best from the engine.

Also heard alot of bad stories with reliability, which is bad considering the vts only came out in 2004

But the handling was absoloutely spot on, and the brakes were brilliant!

The only thing that puzzled me is that the ESP can be turned on and off, even when turned off it still kicks in if you boot them off a roundabout etc, doesn't that defeat the object of having ESP that can be switched on and off? not sure if this is true on other cars?

It's not one of those setups where ESP reactivates once you go above a certain speed (like my 207 GT)?

If you want it turned off it should stay off surely? thus defeating the object like previously mentioned

You would think so, perhaps the ability to switch it off is only there for driving at low speeds extreme situations (snow perhaps????) where it may be hinderance. Otherwise what would be the point.

With my previous 206 GTi, if you turned off the ESP off, it stayed off, until you restarted the car.
