Technical Cinquecento SX just won't start sometimes HELP!

My cinquecento SX 1993 drives fine but then will suddenly not start, even after being driven somewhere with no problems. It will usually go about 15 minutes later. I've had it at two garages and both couldn't find a problem so now it must go to a Fiat garage for diagnostic test. Its costing me a fortune can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

Next time it wont go, take the petrol filler cap off, then put it back on - then it might just go.
Sounds like it could be a problem with the breather system on the petrol tank, it might be causing a vacuum and the pump can't pump any more until the vacuum has gone - hence the reason why it may start 15 mins later.

Thanks Pete! The second garage I took my car to is telling me that Im going to have problems because there are practically no fiat specialist mechanics in my area (altrincham)and I should get a ford fiesta.Can anyone recommend a good garage? I've had my cinqy for 3 months. Many thanks-

Are u Hale in Cornwall or some other Hale i've never heard of? (Come to think of im sure our Hale is infact Hayle... hmmmm.)

Hale!! The last thing we need in Altrincham is more feckin' F***a's. My best advice is if its a fuel problem, dont go to Priory Fiat in Urmston- I went there with a problem with my fuel tank (It leaks from the breather if cornering fast), they looked at everything but that problem and I explained that that was where I reckoned the problem was. Local advcice appears to recommend Caledonia in Manchester or the one in Stockport, but i'm clueless as to where that is...

Thanks er A (!) If I havent found a fiat specialist closer by Monday then it'll have to be Manchester (sigh). I do like my car - its so pretty (!)- but I must have reliable wheels for work - am now going to buy a heynes manual and read it.[8)]

To the best of my knowledge and although it is monday, I know of none, the nearest is at least 5-10 miles away (Priory) or ther is one in Stretford I think, but i'm not sure..
