Hello ,all me and my car are rather New here at the forum.
my cinq is from 1998 and has done some 128000 k m and ofcourse it is yellow.
and nog here is the problem...the smell of petrol, cold this be the fueltank or the filter?
help.

Where is the smell coming from?

If it's coming from the engine bay, I'd be checking the charcoal canister and purge solenoid were ok and that the pipe going to the throttle body was secure.

First thing is to make sure there isn't a physical sign of a petrol leak anywhere. Then if you smell it in the car/cabin lift the rear seat up and check the seal on the tank sender. Then as said check under the bonnet.

O k thanks,I give that a try.
the smell of petrol seems the be coming from the interior

It will probably be rusty fuel tank seams - very common problem. They had an official recall back in the day.

They stink of petrol when you run with more than half a tank. Look underneath and you will see dark staining around the seams of the tank - half way up the sides.

I had the same smell on mine. It was a fuel tank leaking on the seams. Heard there was a recall on them so you could have a go at a dealer, good luck with that. They arent expensive but are a bit fiddly to fit - care you can break the 4 mounting bolts if youre not careful so spray with wd40 or similar for a few days before doing. Easiest on a ramp. Youll probably need help if you do it on axle stands as its awkward to support and bolt up at the same time. Fuel pump is a faff to remove as well, some have got it out ok, i had to take mine apart through the hole in the top to get it out.

Mmm , I smell a garagebill as well.
but could it be the tankfiller ?
And how do I check this ?

I thought mine was the filler neck and it was the tank. The dark staining around the seems gives it away.

I did have a split filler neck on a Cinq once but it was pretty obvious dripping fuel.

i'm with purf on this, 95% chance if not more it'll be tank seams...

Its a diy job if you don't mind fondling the spanners - my only words of warning before starting a tank swap is:
1. Don't do it when there is lots of fuel in it as clearly its gonn abe heavy and you will spill it everywhere
2. Liberally spray the bolts that hold the tank on with penetrating fluid - i would use something actually designed as a proper penetrating fluid like PlusGas over WD40 for this. Spray them and leave it and do it again the next day for a few days to it properly works in - and when you go to drop the tank don't just yank on them really hard. Turn it a bit and then go back the other way and keep doing that, spraying more penetrating fluid as you go, you really don't want to snap these bolts and they have been under the car its whole life.
3. When the tank comes off there is a breather pipe, the bit where it goes on the tank has a little rubber sleeve - you need to retain this and put it on the new tank and its always sticks to the old tank and doesn't come off with the pipe, you put it back together without it and fuel will leak like mad when its over half tank. Ask me how i know ;)

Other than that its really simple, just undo a few bolts and pull of a few pipes and bang new one in in reverse. Remember to disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors from the top of the sender unit (under the rear bench) before you start lowering the tank also.

also worth just checking the sealing of the fuel pump/ sensor assembly on top of the tank. it can be easily accessed from under the rear seats. lift up the seats and then remove the 4 nuts and take the inspection panel off.

i replaced my tank a couple of years ago, but noticed a smell from in the car when the tank was 3/4 or more full. the seal had failed on the level sender unit.
you can no longer get the seal from anywhere, so i had to make one up.

it has been fine since and would be easier than the tank. but chances are, the tank is the issue. cost about £40 from euro car parts
