no every thing is fine which is y im so stressy bout it i just replaced the hg because of this prob but the same. could it be carb related?.i was told it was timing but timed on original marks its the same.new leads new plugs hg the only thing i can think is fuel starvation it will rev to 6k sat still then drive it 4k:bang::bang::bang::bang::cry::cry::cry:

Does it do it when the engine's cold?

It could be a vacuum leak - have you checked the MAP sensor pipe?

Diagnosis probably makes more sense than dashing around changing stuff.

Get a compression test done, wet and dry.

If you pay £20 to ClubCento you get access to Rallycinqs nominal values for all the sensors (so you can test them with a multimeter) (and cheaper parts from Fluffy the Impaler).

Really, it could be anything from a failed throttle position sensor to a temperature sensor to a collapsed cat or exhaust or even a clogged fuel filter.

True, but since a lot of stuff has been disturbed to do the head gasket, something could have easily been overlooked or damaged during reassembly.

it was like it before i done the hg thats why i did it.as for if it does it cold its a permanent thing i checked for piston slap wen the head was off and it was fine.(minor movement)i cant hear any signs of a vacuum leak.i dont have a fiat garage near me (bristol)that i no of.i cant help but think fuel starvation:bang:

Replacing the fuel filter is cheap and should be part of routine maintenance anyway. Use a clamp each end (proper clamp or G clamp or Mole grips with lots of protection over the jaws). Put it on the right way round!

Otherwise, you really can't hear, let alone feel, piston slap on most 4 stroke engines unless the engine is a gonner. Do a compression test. Wet and dry. The tester will cost you less than paying a garage to do it.

How long has it been doing this?

the day before i bought the car.i bought it off a friend who just passed his test but it started doing it the day he passed.ive had it a week. its pumping fuel from the pipe fine so i dont think its a fuel filter problem.but both me and me bro are mechanics n we both agreed that the rings wer fine theres compression wen you turn the engine over by hand.wen running theres no smoke it just holds back all the time wen driving.it idles perfect at 900 no hiccups no nothing :bang::bang::bang:

If you're mechanics, you have a compression tester. Just do it. Even a bicycle pump will show compression if you stick a finger over the end. Could well be a valve issue.

Likewise, the fuel pump will pump fuel through the filter unless it's completely blocked.

I give up. I've told you what to do, told you how to save money. I have no miracles left in my pocket! ;)
