Cinquecento 1995 Running Problem

Hello to all, here i have a 1995 Fiat Cinquecento with a bit of a running problem, i was driving along in 4th gear when all of a sudden a (injector spraying fuel) light on the dash lit up RED and the car began to die.

I threw her into 3rd gear to pick engine speed and revs back up, then back into 4th for the same to happen again. i repeated this as it worked enough to get me home! Since then it the engine starts but seems to hunt and occasionally cuts out, you can rev it right up and it seems ok (fast idle) 2500-3000 revs, let throttle off and it dies...so it has fuel and spark any ideas will be greatly appreciated

My thoughts were possible coil pack & leads or idle control module if it has one!

Hi Lee,
yes it could be the one of the 2 coil packs,
or a poor earth / connection somewhere,

does it start o.k.?,
maybe disconnect the battery overnight , then reconnect and let it warm-up before driving ( this clears minor faults in the ECU) - remember your radio CODE.. !,

Hi there, thanks for you're input, really helps. I tried to go on that forum but it said that i cant for some reason, il try again....

Yeah she starts ok. runs on idle nice for 20secs then hunts, then as soon as i interfear with the throttle she will cough splutter then cut out, i also thought it may be some rubbish from the tank got sucked into a pipe as the fuel sloshes so much in that small tank, mabey. il keep you posted, thanks again, much appreciated.
